Grimes topic gone missing

Would be odd if we are gazumped by Wycombe at the last moment, they are unlikely to challenge for promotion and in financial brown stuff so won't offer decent wages.
Edit. I just checked the Wycombe forum and there is no mention of him signing on there only a thread stating he has signed for us and they wish he'd have joined them. Plus some posts by someone with a similar style as Mal winding them up:lol:

Odd that JP asked the thread to be deleted but the other one about signing number 3 remains.
I guess we'll have to wait and see who turns up at Seasons tomorrow.
Now if the manager isn't at the first day of pre season training I'd be worried

Maybe JP thought there were too many silly questions and the thread had potential to go downhill.

Or, the club politely reminded JP that the deal had not been confirmed, and that asking fans for questions for a player who is not ours yet was 'jumping the gun'. Just a theory.

True - might have realised everyone was on holiday and saying "tomorrow" when it's really two to three weeks was a but cheeky.Hubert Parry wrote:Or, the club politely reminded JP that the deal had not been confirmed, and that asking fans for questions for a player who is not ours yet was 'jumping the gun'. Would have been nice to ask Cureton the same question I posed to Grimes.51/84 wrote:Why does JP not simply ask for questions for any new signings regardless of who the player is

Agreed. After all, it is none of our business who we sign.Nesty wrote:I think we should go back to not announcing signings until the ink is dry

Sky may well say that someone is 'set to sign', or 'said to be in talks' - they never go as far as inviting questions for the player to ask the next morning.Robin wrote:It wasn't the club who announced it but the press which happens everywhere from Sky sports down to tabloids and internet sites to be fair.Nesty wrote:I think we should go back to not announcing signings until the ink is dry

Do I recall at some stage last season the club had a bit of an issue with JP getting there first in terms of breaking news?

Be interesting to know - when writing on here, is JP writing in the capacity of an Echo Journalist or as a civilian. If the former then any embargo would forbid him breaking news on here, if the latter then the club cannot stop him?

The club has no authority on what is written in the newspapers. They can instruct their staff to no talk to them.

Quite right. If JP breaks a story it shows he is doing his job properly.
Unfortunately these days clubs want to control what the media says and does, and are desperate to break news on their websites.
Therefore 'exclusives' are more rare these days and clubs keep it all close to their chests and release it when it suits them.
Mark, are the any paid sources in the media business on a local scale.MarkHalliwell wrote:RTT wrote:The club has no authority on what is written in the newspapers.
