I just cannot see what Vincent would add, he has pace but poor delivery and dribbling.

If it happens it happens. I'll support him all the way if and when he's got a ruby shirt on. I think he can do a job for us if he can stay fit.

I suppose in that sense he's a similar player to Mo and a replacement of sorts. Would he score as many though? I would hope he'd track back more but not really the left winger I had in mind. On a brighter note, from the two pre-season friendlies it sounds like Jermaine's delivery has improved.

Scores a few goals, pacey and has played regularly for decent clubs since he left us.

I'm sure his delivery will have improved.

Pete O'Rourke is usually bang on with his transfer stories.

He was a key part in a team that won promotion from this league last season, scored a decent amount of goals and is a much better player than the one that left us four years ago.

My main issue with that would be that we would be playing a right winger out of position on the left.

Not only that one of the reasons Vincent left Port Vale was because he wanted to play up front. Perhaps we will play 4-3-3 with Vincent and Cureton off Gornell? Richards, Taylor and Penn in the middle?

Sounds like we missed out on Mark Wright then.

Or Vincent was always the main target?

Trialing with Southend so maybe for him the only way is Essex?

Should we get our questions in now or is it too early? :D

Then I am underwhelmed, quite frankly. Our problem has been creativity and we are about to sign another pace player.

dont panic - I felt the lad had potential till he broke his leg, he was just recovering when he parted company. He has now got a lot of experience behind him.

He was pretty dire here last season and spent the game play acting and winding up the crowd.

Agreed Robin. It is clear that he has done well since he left us, but every time I have seen him play since it has been less than inspiring. HOWEVER, I said the same about Billy Jones last season and was proved pretty wrong (although it is interesting that a few more have come to my initial view that his defending is a weakness).

The squad seems to be coming together then.

One more player to come in permanently, and maybe some loans to top it up?

I believe Vincent will be the last permanent signing unless we take one of the trialists (which now looks very unlikely with Rees leaving). We'll likely then add a defender and striker on loan as cover.

As has already been said, it is clear that Yates is looking for players with recent League 2 promotion pedigree. Although I was underwhelmed by what I saw of Vincent last season, I do trust Yates' judgement.

Better than Mohammed at least, I'll have to see how he does during the season, can't draw a fair judgement from seeing him play once last season.

I am delighted he is back home wearing the ruby+white. So much more experience on his shoulders. This is great news.

Ash was not only offered a new two year deal by Vale which he turned down, he was also player of the month in October last year and played 40 games despite being injured for neigh on 2 months. Can't see this being a bad signing personally...

It would be interesting to know why he rejected a two year deal at Vale to sign here.

Maybe they told him he'd be backup to Kaid Mohamed? / Offered him a contract of less or the same as his current one to play at a higher level ...

apart from the obvious geography and money, he probably got less abuse from the robins fans
Also he knew that Mo would beat him in a race and would oust him in football
Signing on fees and bonuses
Also perhaps he doesnt like not knowing if hes going to get paid

Would rather have Vincent than Mo. I always liked Ash (until Vale played here last season when he pissed me off) and when he was banging them in for the reserves he looked a cut above and looked very good when he finally broke into the first team. The knee ligament injury stopped his development dead for a year at a crucial time in any young-ish footballers career. But nobody can judge him on his past, he has got to prove himself this season.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him up front.
