Terrible sad news

This was truly sad news when Alison Roy's daughter phoned on Monday. I've known the family since the early '90's and spent many happy hours in the paddock with Roy and Josie. I always felt so much better after a couple of hours in Roy's company even if we'd lost. A passionate CTFC supporter, who always looked for the good in people. He was a bit of a joker and on one occasion he literally jumped on me in Waitrose of all places much to the surprise of Josie and my wife. Waddon Road just lost a true gentleman supporter and will be the poorer for it. But the many many people who have had the benefit of Roy's friendship will be so much better for the experience; I for one, will miss him and I count myself privileged to be able to call him a true friend. My thoughts and prayers are with Josie, Angela and Alison.

I'm truly shocked and saddened by this news and my thoughts go to Roy's family and friends.
I didn't know Roy by name but he was a familar and friendly face in the the paddock - a happy and genial man whose passion for football and his local team was clear to all.
I'm especially shocked as Roy raced up to my six year old son and I outside the ground on Saturday after the game, putting his arm round me like an old friend and we chatted briefly about how dreadful the game had been. It's tragic to think that was so close to his passing.
Roy summed up everything that was good about supporting your local team; commitment, hope, unity and belief.
He will be sadly missed in the paddock and I hope the club will mark his passing in some way and recognise the forty years of dedication he gave to following Cheltenham Town.
RIP Roy.

My family and I have lived next door to Roy and his wife Josie for years, and travelled with them to many games. Roy was such a lovely smiley man, and followed the robins for many years. We're really going to miss him.
Roy was my neighbour and friend since we moved to Rowanfield road 24 years ago.
We are stunned by this sad loss and have spent quite a bit of time with Josie since Roy passed away.
My shock when we received the knock on the door that night will stay with me forever.
He passed away in the Prestbury road near Piville circus.
My daughters regarded him as their uncle and are very upset at this sad time. So many nights with a beer or a small whiskey and always with a smile, he was always smiling, generous as ever.
Josie has been amazed at the many cards and flowers she has received, its lifted her so much.
I have lost count on the times he attended the repatriations at Wootton Bassett and Brize Norton in all sorts of weathers.
Even when he was poorly he still went, it meant so much to him.
He helped me raise funds for my bike ride in France and always dipped his hand in his pocket.
I feel very lucky to have spent so much time with a friend our family loved but he's left us with so many memories we will cherish.
God bless you Roy.
The latest is the funeral will be at Cambray church at 1pm on Monday 2nd September followed by a private family cremation then a drink at the Glos Old Spot.
Obviously subject to confirmation.

Really sorry to hear this - walked past as it happened with my lad and a number of argyle fans tried doing CPR until nurse/paramedics arrived.
A lot of Argyle walked past and it was not very nice and took shine off a great day for us. There is a collection for his Royal Legion Branch on PASOTI.
Seems like he was a true Gentleman and staunch footie fan.
Deepest sympathies to his family.
RIP

Heartfelt condolences also from everyone at CTFC - a big supporter of the club has been lost.
In response to the question earlier in the thread, both the ground and the training ground have defibrilators. The first aid room is situated in the corner of the ground between the Main Stand and the LMI Stand. Anyone needing medical assistance at a match should make themselves known to the nearest steward as the safety team are in radio contact with the medical staff.
On matchdays there are two doctors, a paramedic and at least four St John's Ambulance staff on duty. Sadly Mr Scott was taken ill on the way home from the ground after the match had finished. Such a shame it didn't happen a little earlier and we might have been able to help.

This is incredibly sad news and my thoughts and condolences are with friends and family.
After the game, I walked past an incident at the bottom of Prestbury Road and saw several people attempting CPR (and doing so correctly). I was very concerned at the time and then the paramedics arrived and hoped that everything would be OK from there. It is all very sad indeed.

We have just made Roy's wife Josie aware of the Argyle fans response and needless to say she is overwhelmed by it.
They have already collected a large amount to be donated to Roy's local branch of the Aden Veterans.
A fantastic gesture by them.
True fans.

A minutes silence or applause at the next home game?
Thanks to the Plymouth fans for helping me out we have found he contact details of Steve and Rory the two fans who went to Roy's aid.
Josie called them last night to thank Steve and had a good chat.
As you've seen they have collected an amazing amount of money and are sending flowers to Roy's funeral on Monday.

Josie hopes to attend Tuesday's game with Plymouth and we will take Roy's place in the Paddock all being well.

The Robins Trust will be holding a collection at the Plymouth match in Roy's memory. I have also had contact with Roy's colleagues at the aden legion and they have expressed their wish to purchase a piece of equipment in Roy's honour for the club. If anyone has any suggestions then please pm me as I said I would be in contact again towards the end of next week.
Our sympathies go out to Roy's family and Friends.

Hi I regularly view this site as a Robins supporter but am not registered as I do not post.
I saw the post about ‘terribly sad news’.
I was wondering if you could pass on my email address to Red Rob who was a friend of the man that died.
[email address removed but has been given to Red Rob]
I would like to pass on my thoughts.
I was one of a small group of 4 supporters who tried to assist Roy after he collapsed and comfort Josie when she appeared at the scene.
Didn’t know the family.
I am humbled to see the collection organised by the Plymouth supporters and the thoughts of posters on the site.
As a veteran myself both Army and CTFC its good to see people so caring and thoughtful.
thanks
John M
Yes I did receive it thanks Andy, I've replied to John and Roy's wife Josie is popping in tomorrow again so I'll show her all of the posts etc.
Not sure if I mentioned it above, the Plymouth fans are sending flowers too.
Sorry if I'm repeating myself.
regards
Rob

£348.19 raised tonights from the bucket collection which given the crowd is a good amount. Louise spoke with Roy's wife at todays match and she is thankful of everyone who has donated.
Many thanks to everyone who donated.
Many thanks to everyone who donated.
If anyone wants to contribute, but was not present on Tuesday, then they should put the money in an envelope and hand it to any of the trust raffle ticket sellers on Saturday. The envelope is to keep this collection apart from raffle money.
