The pictures greatly indicate we need a new stadium.

A new 4000 seater stand with exec boxes would be sufficient for league one in my view.

All we need is the £ 5 million quid to build it - anybody got any loose change?!

IMO I can't see anything happening at whaddon road for a few years yet.
The expenditure on the refurb of the hospitality area and new changing rooms last summer probably means the club wouldn't have done this if they're thinking of pulling the stand down anytime soon.

Whilst the main stand and PRE look very tired, the ground is functional and satisfies criteria for where we are currently in terms of attendances and league.
I think ultimately our long term future lies away from whaddon road

I disagree - we would never get the regular support to make a 10,000 seat stadium viable - unless we were in the Championship or unless a heavyweigt financer or consortium took over the club.

Why? Shrewsbury and Chesterfield both did it, they were previously getting attendances comparable and smaller than ours. Both have smaller catchment areas than ourselves albeit with more league history.

In an ideal world we would only move ground if it were to a 15,000 all seater and then on condition we had serious Championship aspirations.

As you said Robin, both those clubs have far more league history than the Robins and they also don't have to compete with Rugby, Horse Racing and Cricket on their doorstep. Football is the 4th biggest sport in Gloucestershire and will prob always remain so.

That's why I think Chelt would be better staying at WR and re-developing the Main Stand - then we would have a nice stadium that, with some success on the pitch, have a decent chance of 3/4 filling if we were in the top half of L1.

Then again, be great to "do a Yeovil" and have 1 season in the Championship!!

But surely any new stand will increase capacity to around the 9000 mark so hardly any difference.

But a whole new stadium would cost approx £15-20 million.

I agree, a lot of capital required to get that off the ground that is why I believe the racecourse was seriously looked at as they were sharing a big chunk of the cost. Perhaps a ground share with with Gloucester on the Golden Valley, in a 15,000 all seater would be another option if they ever leave Kingsholm.

The pitch would be awful thou - especially during the winter months - think we'll be staying put for the foreseeable. I like WR as a stadium - a whole new Main Stand would top it off nicely - now to find that elusive £5 million!!

PB has said tonight the new stand would take capacity to around the 10,000 mark so that sounds ideal. This way we can then give the In2Print to away fans and benefit from larger away followings too.

I would imagine that to reach that capacity the main stand will incorporate some terracing.
Hopefully any future work will include improving the PRE at the same time

I understood any new stand had to be all seater to qualify for a grant. I'm assuming we are looking a 4000 capacity stand if so.

Is there much funding available from bodies such as the Football Foundation anymore?

Colchester is an interesting one. Was built on an old part derelict mainly greenfield site in deprived north Colchester called Cuckoo Farm. The ground was just part of a regeneration development featuring new Westway homes (hence the stadium name) and the usual leisure and retail.

As well as Westway sponsorship, the development was not only promoted by the local authority, but the then South East England Development Agency put their weight behind it.

Will be hard to find that backing in the current environment. Best we can hope for is a big redevelopment on the prefab site and on Prestbury Road. I know I previously went on about a hospitality development, but residential is probably more lucrative. I'd happily have it named The Bellway Homes Stand if it meant a new four thousand seater with good boxes, bar and gym. Something like Robin states, I believe we desperately need to have a vibrant future.

no need to do anything
We can all fit in the one stand in the conference
Baker does not want to spend any money
You can kiss it all goodbye

Did anyone ask about a new stand? I recall at the last forum Mr Baker said it was something he'd to see happen under his watch.
