Because it is a tight league but also as it's early days. As some have said, got to wait til after 23 games for the table to start taking an accurate shape, and even then it can be misleading depending on the away and home fixtures teams face in each half of the season.

Can anyone tell us who was top and what points they (and us) were on at this stage last season, by way of comparison?

Gillingham were top with 36, we had 29, the same as the current leaders have. So we're only 2 points further from the top despite having a much worse season so far.

Yes, I imagine someone can!

(Oh, alright then - at the end of November 2012, 20 matches played, Gillingham were top 41 points from 20 games, Port Vale (39 points) were second, and we (35) were third. Aldershot (17) and Barnet (15) filled the bottom two places).
So the ppm spread was 1.3 while currently it stands at 1.0 - last season the spread was reduced to 0.76 by the end of season. Our current ppm (1.25) would have placed us in 16th position at the end of November, and if kept consistently, would have placed us 16th at the end of the season! Morecambe were the consistent team who finished 16th. The only other team to hold the same league position at the end of November and the final day were Gillingham
