If we have a keeper, 4 in defence, a diamond and 1 up front we will usually get beat as thats only 10 men. Where is the other player in your quote ?RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:Since then we have done anything but. Ending up with one up front and diamonds.

I was referring to two different formations - one up (4-5-1) and the diamond (4-1-2-1-2).vcinthestand wrote:If we have a keeper, 4 in defence, a diamond and 1 up front we will usually get beat as thats only 10 men. I was more than happy with 4-5-1 away from home
so I assume that you would prefer 4-4-2

Or 4-3-3.
Or the 4-2-3-1 we had a couple of years back when the front man was constantly supported from out wide and other runners into the box.

The problem is we never did play 4-3-3. Tell me one game where we did in the last 2 years
Occasionally we did for 20 minutes when chasing a game. When we play 3 in midfield or even 4-1-3-2 we usually get over run. Certainly at home we end up having to flood the mid field as other teams come not to be beaten and flood the midfield
Dont forget the Christmas tree 4-3-2-1 which is what you might be calling 4-3-3

I said I would prefer 4-3-3, not that we have played it. Like you I do not recall seeing it very often at all and not in normal circumstances. I would give it a go at home.
The 4-2-3-1 I mention was what so memorably humiliated Crawley and Southend.
