Just needs a couple of hundred to come back regularly......noticed a lot of Gloucester Rugby wear around. the lads next to me were rugby regulars, but seemed to enjoy themselves...Malabus wrote:Attendance very pleasing. We need that home crowd to progress.

Be great if a few more come along.
More fans turned up today than for our crunch game versus Shrewsbury last season which I think goes to show how much this squad under GJ has recaptured the attention of the Cheltenham public.

Would they have been enticed to come back? That is the question...

Credit where it's due. I've got 15 years worth of stats and still underestimated the terrace walk-up crowd (see my other post). Great support today. Cheers everyone.

Yeah, great for us to all underestimate a crowd for once rather than the other way round. Still top of the league and some good looking upcoming fixtures.... Hopefully we can continue our good run and take over Aggborough on Boxing Day!
seems as though the apparent stay awayers came to have a look, was well worth the visit in my book.
so 4700 home fans today, what does everyone think v Chester in 2 weeks? I'll go back to 2,750 in a crowd of 2,900 - unfortunately I just don't think they'll stay

I think we'll start seeing 3,000 home fans on a regular basis if we stay top of the league. That's a reasonable base to build from - though of course they will start to drift away again if results decline.
Like the away game at fgr I saw a lot of people yesterday who used to go most weeks.I spoke to a few and they mention they were only there because it was a big game.
We had 2,100/2,200 more home fans than usual,is like to think 500 or so will stick around now to take us up to 3k home fans a week.
But it would not surprise me to see the normal 2,400 regulars at the next game

I'd like t think a few hundred drifters who turned up yesterday will be persuaded to turn up now and again if not more regularly. Attendances of around 3,000 for a team winning most of their games and sitting at the top of the table is a reasonable expectation. If the run continues, we should be looking forward to crowds regularly around the 4,000 mark for the run-in.
That said, I understand the realism of those who estimate our regular, core support levelling out around 2,400-2,500.

Robin your stats amaze me only two clubs can compete with us in attendances ?????? in the National league, god knows where you have conjured that percentage from. Yesterdays attendance I think shocked a lot of people, around a thousand more than what I was expecting. It proves that a top of the league clash, and with it also being a local derby the gate was always going to be high, it drags the floaters out. A shame those extra 2,700 fans who attended yesterdays game will not be at the next home game. If we have 2,700 home fans at the next game I would be happy with that. Robin here are the av attendances after 8 games, we may have gone above Chester, but not sure if there game against Wrexham is in these Stats. Our gates are down 18% on last season, Tranmere down 1%. There a few sides in our league Robin when doing well, will have a massive increase in attendance, success always attracts the fans. This season Wrexham are up 50% Grimsby 23% Lincoln 13% Chester 9%. Please remember these stats are after 8 home games
1 Tranmere Rovers 5.235
2 Wrexham AFC 4.968
3 Grimsby Town FC 4.551
4 Lincoln City FC 2.892
5 Chester FC 2.379
6 Cheltenham Town 2.340
One last thing the Prestbury road end sang there hearts out yesterday you could see then jumping up and down, clapping away but to no avail, you were out sung by volume by the FGR fans, all due to the structure of the ends. I hope that when the entrance is moved to the Prestbury Road that the club will give the Whaddon road end to the home fans, you deserve it for your efforts, and it will help the team as well, plus the visiting sides wont hear there fans cheering them on so much as they do now when they have a decent following

Not really Shev I said only about 10% of clubs in this league can get attendances like ours yesterday or more specifically Wrexham, Tranmere and Grimsby, sure it's slightly above 10% but it's clearly a pretty accurate assessment. We are the fourth best supported team in the league at this point and Lincoln are only close as Grimsby took 1800 away fans to their place.
it is more than 10% that's a fact, and if doing well Im sure the likes of Woking, and even Kiddy could be included. We all have Derbys which are going to swell gates Robin, we had FGR, and it was a top of the table clash, that's why it was massive. If we were both mid table less than 3,000 would of been there. You can make excuses for stats all day Eastleigh laid on Free Coaches to Whaddon Road, their highest ever away attendance ??????? did you take that into account lol

It is 20%. So Robin is 100% out in his accurate assessment. (A margin of error we can apply to all his numbers.)
Shev's stats are after 8 home games. Be interesting to see whay the averages are now.

Correct, after 8 games RCS, I will look out for updates and keep you posted mate. For sure our gates will now be up on last seasons average figures after yesterdays game, and now above ChestersRegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:It is 20%. So Robin is 100% out in his accurate assessment. So after yesterday's game Cheltenham's average home attendance is 2,762. We will need a lot more big crowds to get into fourth place though; Lincoln above us is 3,371 (biggest gate 5,849 - only a few hundred more than we got yesterday).

So we are the 5th best supported team. Lincoln average 600 more. Over ten games that is 6,000 more.
Before yesterday, our average was 2488. One big crowd added nearly 300 to the average, (although the same argument applies when comparing with Lincoln. Bet they have played the home game against Grimsby)Andreas wrote:http://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/national/attendances

Last season's average was 2989.
So while the average is now down by less than 10% down on last season, the realistic figure is closer to 17%
Re-Leo's comment, I can confirm that the highest Lincoln attendance was indeed for their match against Grimsby.
Not wishing to be pedantic, I think last season's league average was 2,864. This is quoted in Wikipedia and I have it from another source too. For season 2013/14 it was 2,980 (very close to Leo's quoted figure for last season).

A fantastic site that lets you know the names of both Albanian teams with a higher average than us last season

Quick mental arithmetic: a freak crowd of +1800 adds about 75 to a clubs average attendance over the course of the season. +800 adds about 35. It's a pathetic argument and I'm only waiting for claims that they were really quiet all match and that our 4600 outsang their 800 and I can shout 'bingo!' On my Football Forum Bingo Card game.

Over ten games 1800 Grimbsy fans would increase the average by 180 per game. They are currently averaging 600 per game more than us. So your Grimsby excuse does not hold water.Robin wrote:As I stated above Lincoln was inflated by 1800 Grimsby fans.

Against Braintree they got 2,565 (on a Saturday). We got 2,097 (on a Tuesday).
