If I am correct this day in 1997 was the day that Chris Robinson got the boot after the FA Trophy defeat to Dulwich Hamlet at home.
Steve Cotterill, who had recently returned to us as player after a stint as Manager of Sligo Rovers in Ireland, was placed in charge for the rest of the season by the Board.
The rest as they say is history.
What a fantastic journey these last 20 years have been.

Sure has.
Since then, I make it:
5 promotions
3 relegations
FA Trophy win - Old Wembley
2 x Play off wins - Cardiff
1 x Play off loss - New Wembley
5th Round of the Cup
Spurs, Everton, Newcastle in the Cup.
England goal keeper on loan.
More excitement during the last 20 years than many clubs have had in 120 years.

Impressive stuff, and perhaps this success is the reason some of our fans and the glory hunters can't cope when we have a season of struggle.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:Sure has.

I read an article a few years back which placed Cheltenham in the top 6 most successful clubs of all time, given the amount of time they'd been a Football League Club, i.e. marked by the fewest number of seasons passing without winning something.
Let's not forget the role that our Chairman has played during these 20 years, Paul Baker has been the rock of stability throughout. People knocking him on the "pitch" thread should bear this in mind.

Worthy praise for Mr Baker - however, if open for praise for good work, he must be open to criticism for poor work such as the groundshare. It might be a great deal, in which case he would be praised for that too, but currently no evidence as been presented to suggest that.Reliant Robin wrote:Impressive stuff, and perhaps this success is the reason some of our fans and the glory hunters can't cope when we have a season of struggle.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:Sure has.

RCS, you are forgetting the golden rules
Criticism is seen as being negative
Criticism is seen as being disloyal to the club
Criticism is only brought about because you can't handle it when we struggle
Much easier to be a Uriah Heep and praise everything

There's an article in this month's 'When Saturday Comes' about football in Harrogate Town, and the article starts with a bit about football in the Spa towns:
"There are 26 spa town in England and Wales.......what they all have in common is a long-standing aversion to football success. Between them, Britain's spa towns can muster just 27 seasons of senior football over the last 125 years: the sum total of Cheltenham Town and Scarborough's stays in the Football League"
Say ooh, aah, Cheltenham Spa say ooh aah Cheltenham Spa

I could be wrong, but I think Robin is referring to teams who have been in non-league in that time, else you could also include Swansea as well who stayed in the Football League on the final day of the season in 2003, and were winning the League Cup in 2013.

No, by remembering all the events and achievements I have attended and witnessed since my first game in 1997. Not hard to remember 20 years of CTFC.Malabus wrote:You mean Google and a bit of copy + paste "make it".RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:Since then, I make it
