The only one I really feel for here is Barts. He was given the chance to play and in my view did not let anyone down. Clearly there were things with GJ and Barts that we don't know about and so we have to assume that in GJ's opinion he was not going to hack it at this level. On the other side of the coin there are many whop do not understand the keeping of Cranners. He has been found out so many times, e.g. Morecombe game here a few weeks back yet GJ still thinks he can make him a defender...or does he...perhaps he will play further forward......or be on the bench.#
So what do we need now?
Keeper
Two full backs
One central defender
One creative midfielder
One 20 goal a season man
This is the minimum isn't it? Given they are all half decent for the league and are first team players from day one we are away and running! Division One here we come! Assuming no injuries and no suspensions we will walk it!

Cranston can't tackle either which is why he fouls and gets booked. Another winter of watching him targeted by wise opposition Managers will not be pleasant. Come on the ten men !

No other options really I guess. Neither Munns (lightweight, mud up to his knees) nor Dayton (not match fit, glass ankles) had the strength and fitness of Rowe and I don't think anyone else was in the squad to play there.Nesty wrote:given the team selections over the final 10-15 games (and did RM pick the team ?) the only real surprise is Rowe - and ever present during the run in.
I have to say that I thought at the time that that was a pretty poor comment to makeRegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:questioning whether Gary's health is causing him to sign the wrong playersAnother_FoD_Robin wrote:I cannot recall stating Gary has/will got/get it wrong.... Also I am pretty sure the majority of posters on here will in reality side with GJ.....after all we all know he is the one who sees them on a day to day basis. Still one of the highest League One and Two experiences in the squad. He'll get a deal at a top Conference side.
Gary obviously thinks Cranston can be coached defensively, and a good player to keep due to his pace and fitness. With a midfield less like a sieve and a more solid back four Cranston be less exposed by team mistakes and can focus on his own game.
When it comes to picking players, I'm going to side with GJ everme over fans - we pretty much only watch the ball rather than off the ball and half the time don't have a clear view of the game from our viewing positions.

Rowe and strength in the same sentence ? If Dayton had started more games we would have scored more goals.Someone will pick up a decent player.

Yes, his upper body strength was decent. If he got the ball to feet in the midfield he could always hold off and turn his marker.horlickfanclub wrote:Rowe and strength in the same sentence ?
He could also lose the ball and not try and win it back, hit a simple pass astray, and waste set-piece after set-piece, but there we go, he's gone now.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:Yes, his upper body strength was decent. I think we made a real mistake letting Munns go. Not sure why he wasn't playing for us but I really hope we don't come to regret letting him go. The rest im not overly bothered about, I do think we retained a few weird ones such as Page- Yes he's had injury problems which aren't really his fault but 2 years out basically.. Waste of money imo id much rather we just got rid of him.

Indeed. Was just commenting on why he played so often during the last 10-15 games, not that we should have kept him.Shade wrote:He could also lose the ball and not try and win it back, hit a simple pass astray, and waste set-piece after set-piece, but there we go, he's gone now.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:Yes, his upper body strength was decent. In the interests of balance of course, he did also keep the ball, win it, play good passes and set-up goals from set-pieces as well.

Of the retained players I only consider 2 to be first choice;
Storer/Waters
Cranston/Wright squad players
Downes may play 10 games or so, but all parties agree he's there as back up from what I can tell
and surprised if Lovett/Page see any first team action
Really is a big summer of recruitment ahead

Do people think we will get 2 CB's
We have Boyle and DOS
Plus Bower and Downes. I recognise Downes may be a player Coach but it may be a luxury to have 6 CB's on the books?

We need four CBs minimum. Two first teamers, and two almost first teamers who we would have every confidence playing for 10-15 games each. Same goes for every position.THECHOIRBOY wrote:Do people think we will get 2 CB's

You are obviously not on the same PAGE as Gary ?Rulistening wrote:I think we made a real mistake letting Munns go. Saddened at Barts departure; a very decent squad man; whatever his or GJ's problem it was obviously not solved. Poor decision; as is retaining DW, too slow, insufficient skill at Lg2 level; rarely constructive. Davis surprised at; potential was there. Perhaps they [the management team] need to look at their decisions over the past season too.......some pretty poor ones over time! Sincerely hope the recruitment team are up to it!
Equally we've just let go of Manny and Tin so lost two. If we play three at the back which GJ has for the majority of his time here then we need five centre backs minium and both Downes/Bower are likely to be cover only. So I'd say two centre backs is likely with one permanent and one on loan especially as Bower could be loaned out himself to gain experience in non-league for the first six months.THECHOIRBOY wrote:Do people think we will get 2 CB's
