Div.1 club showing interest, shame if he goes before Jan.which was my time to sell,i think price goes up then.Suppose we have to be a selling club, but it`s irksome if we can`t demand decent fees.Even our Academy kids are being tracked in Europe now.

I hear you but if we get offered £250,000 we could buy a couple of decent forwards with that.

Those rumours died off pretty quick

Have they died off, I'd say it's more a league one club has approached us and I would hope we've rebuffed any approach unless a substantial fee is involved which has ended their interest.

Almost spot on...

@JonPalmerSport
Cheltenham Town have rejected at least two bids from a League One club for midfielder Harry Pell #ctfc

Good, well done the board. Our stance needs to be we don't want or need to sell, if you really want him you need to place an offer we cannot refuse otherwise find an alternative player.

..the problem is that it can unsettle the player and if he decides he has only one short career, he'll say he would like to speak to the other club.

...as with Billy, the chance of moving up a division with higher wages would be tempting for anyone.

The player is on a two year deal and settled in the area, he's rumoured to be one of the highest paid players at the club we hold the power here unlike Billy who could talk to other clubs. If Pell asks to speak to the other club then we need to explain if they make a suitable then we will allow it but we want to keep him here and help us gain promotion - if we achieve that then he will no doubt get an improved deal.

Promotion? I don't think we'll even finish in the top half this season.

Chesterfield have joined the race for Pell.

I agree promotion is more realistic next season, would love it to be this season but I'm expecting mid-table consolidation.

As for Chesterfield it seems unlikely that they could afford him or compete with Portsmouth in terms of salary/league one football.

Shove your crooked spire up your ars*.

To compensate for the 'dirty money' Chesterfield have had in the past we want at least £600k from them. Still happy to take £400k from Pompey.

There is no way league 1 and 2 clubs will be bidding more than 100k for a player unproven at that level which is the reason we haven't sold. Personally even if we had an offer of around 100k I would sell and invest in a quality striker which is what we need most atm. Midfield is our strongest area and we are well covered their if Pell was to go.

No way should we accept £100k and what do you realistically think we could get for that other than a two year deal for a slightly above average league two player wages only?

Ok maybe not 100k maybe 150-200k but the point remains I can't see a club paying that much for him. I would happily see Pell go if we were to then invest it in a striker or two we have more than adequate players already at the club to play in the the centre of midfield.

At least £250k needed for a proven goal scorer. Plus the need to replace Pell. £400k or no dice. If no L1 side will/can pay that, we keep him.

I wouldn't sell for any less than £500k. We're in a position where we don't need to sell.

Exactly it needs to be an offer we can't refuse in other words one which would allow us to sign 2-3 quality players. That means wages of £50k per annum and maybe a fee.

How is Kyle Walker worth £50m? Football's gone mad. Pell has a 2 year contract so it would have to be a sizeable offer. Good to see the club are taking such a defiant stance and not rolling over and accepting the first offer that comes in.

Is worth what someone is prepared to pay us. If no one will pay £400k he is not worth it. If they will he is. We need to replace him, get a striker, and make a profit, hence why we should demand a large fee.

I am sure these replies have not answered the question of how is Harry Pell worth upwards of £400k

He isn't worth £400k, but we have no incentive to sell him for whatever he is worth. Therefore it would take a bid much higher than his worth (be it £400k or another figure) for us to consider selling him.

I love this comment from a Chesterfield fan. :-)

...Tbh I thought Harry Pell was the 111 year old last surviving World War One soldier.

I don't know what he is worth, just that to replace him, get a striker, and a profit, we need a minimum £400k. It is up to other clubs to decide if they want to pay that. If they do, they think he is worth it, if not, they don't. Not for me to judge.
