FA Cup...eye on the draw
Moderators: Admin, Ralph, asl, Robin
I can certainly remember them having two good FA Cup runs but so did Woking, Altrincham etc, never really associated them with giant killing though like Yeovil, H*r*ford and a few others. You can bet Billericay may get on though, possibly Orient, Stockport if they get a good draw. Also you would assume Blackburn may get on.Shade wrote:Because Kiddie are as much, if not more, of a traditional giant killing team than anyone. Well, maybe not giant killing, but progressing to later rounds that they had no right to reach.

Maidstone or Enfield to visit WR for a beating.
Will take that.
£10 adults and £5 kids in all areas the ground please.

Ok. 2-0 or 3-0 only then.Malabus wrote:Don’t underestimate the non league teams.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:Maidstone or Enfield to visit WR for a beating.

The sort of draw you want in the first round, a very winnable game that we win 98 times out of 100. Yes there will be the odd Tamworth/Sutton shock but this is the ideal draw at this stage where progression is all that matters with very few if any big draws to be had.

Be nice to make it affordable for the fans. CTFC fans need an incentive to turn up against the minnows, and fans of the part-timers should be rewarded for making a trek across the country for a non-glamour tie.

Cheap prices, and also announce ticket stubs will be used as priority should we need to in future rounds.
Some questions for the historians amongst you re Enfield!
Q1. When did we play them at WR in the FA Cup, and was it 1st round? Was it around 1963?
Q2. What was the score Chelt 3 Enfield 6
Q3. Weren't they one of the top amateur sides in country at that time?
Q4. Their striker, England amateur international? Was it ?Tommy Lawrence???? Really not sure!
Q5. Didn't he injure Rob's keeper?
Q6. Who was Rob's keeper? Billy Lamont????????
Q7. When were subs introduced as keeper had to stay on pitch? No idea!
Q8. Was that around the time we played Reading in first round at WR?
Q9. When was that and what was score? Think it was Robs 1 Reading 2? Don't know when!
Q10. Who remembers playing Lovells Athletic, Ton Pentre, Abergavenny Thursday, Merthyr Tydfil etc in FA Cup when it was regionalised with us in Welsh group, and often losing!!!! Who were Lovells Athletic?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That should keep one or two quiet for a few minutes!!!

I share that thought Malabus. Too much complacency here.

Free entry for anyone with a Lovells Athletic programme or packet of sweets.
Ferndale was FA Trophy about 1974.horlickfanclub wrote:Oldun forgot Ferndale, or was that Trophy? Lovells Athletic were a works team.
I remember going to Ton Pentre in the FA Cup around 1976, and a few trips to Merthyr Tydfil, also Bridgend and maybe some others that way from 40 odd years ago. It was always a trip with some trepidation over the border for us young lads !
But great times we had, and Dave Lewis usually put a few in the back of the net. And it's great to still see so many faces at Whaddon Road from all those years ago too.
Oldun - Enfield Town were formed in 2001. You are referring to a different club that went bust in 2007.
Enfield FC have been replaced by Enfield 1893, (formed of course in 2007) - and playing in the Essex League

For the record, the current Maidstone United club were formed as Maidstone Invicta in 1992, after the old club folded.
They have a claim to being a continuation of the old team, as they were formed from the youth team of United
Jim Thompson was instrumental in setting up the new club after creating the need by causing Maidstone United (and Dartford) out of business, but he was soon banned from football.

I remember going to see us play at the old Enfield ground in 1989 when Jim Barron was Manager and Andy Gray was playing for us and he scored in the first minute, but we lost 2-4.leohoenig wrote:Oldun - Enfield Town were formed in 2001. You are referring to a different club that went bust in 2007.

Also I recall some of our supporters getting in to a bit of a scrap amongst themselves, all very unsavoury that day.
Those suggesting cheap entry for this game may not realise that we can’t reduce the prices of the tickets off our own backs. We can suggest a price for the game and put it to our opponents. The ball would be in there court then, that’s how it works or used to unless it’s changed
Yes, but they will surely be advised that reducing tickets to £10 for adults is a good idea? Can't imagine many Maidstone or Enfield fans would be overjoyed at paying £21 to get in, either.shevates wrote:Those suggesting cheap entry for this game may not realise that we can’t reduce the prices of the tickets off our own backs. £15 would be enough of a reduction. £10 concession.

Wouldn't you love it if we lost. Bet you are jizzing your pants just at the thought of calling for Gary's head and slating the players after a defeat.horlickfanclub wrote:I share that thought Malabus. Too much complacency here.
No complacency, just confidence.

I don't see any reason they can't make seats the same price as standing. £10 for this game and ideally £15 for normal games (adult) though that will not happen.

Glad to see some of them appreciating the opportunity to visit the Regency Spa town, several posters on there saying a day in Cheltenham would be nice, one even saying a family weekend in Cheltenham would be welcome to appease his partner.longmover wrote:check out the maidstone forum
That is what Cup Fever is all about, it is more than just football.
At least they will have splendid architecture and parks and decent ale to make the trip worth it after a regulation 3-0.
