Three starts, five sub appearances and no goals for Northampton who are rock bottom of League One.

We could be passing him on the way up!

Never get why he left here. I could understand if he went to a championship team of top L1 team but Northampton aren't much of an upgrade. Surely it's better to be playing regularly in L2. Personally I never thought he was as good as many made out he stood out in a poor team I wouldn't swap Sellars, Mo or Dawson for him.

I agree. He is a fantastic instinctive player - but when given time and space he wasn't very good at all.

The moment he went I said he'd be found out at League One level and that appears to be the case.

That's not to take anything away from him, he was by far our best player last season and I certainly never begrudged him taking the step up. But I do agree with Ben, he'd struggle to get in our first XI at the moment.

Dawson will struggle to get in our 1st XI right now - Waters would be an impact sub right now at best....
Good luck to him though. Don't begrudge him the move. Fantastic work rate and ethic, a nice bloke too.

Dawson will get back starting asap. Billy will be out on loan in January. Shame he is not first choice as we are due add ons.

Pell and Waters seem to be experiencing very different seasons - one having moved on and one deciding to solidify their position.

Billy likely to have got a chunky pay rise though so not all bad for him. Also, likely to be able to drop back down to league two with relative ease either on loan in January or on a permanent at the end of the season. Just a shame he didn't stay with us one more season before jumping up.

Billy signed a three year contract so will not leave for a poorer club. He may find his way back to Div 2 with the Cobblers.

Maybe moneybags/debtbags clubs like FGR or Mansfield will splash out for him.

Apart from Waters, how many ex players (not including loans) are still playing L2 or higher

Marley Watkins is one that springs to mind. Norwich I believe and has played 7 times so far this season.

Matt Smith. Seven goals in 21 games for QPR since joining from Fulham. Was released by us aged 18 without making first team.

Scott Brown (GK)

McGlashan

Summerfield?

Wes Thomas. Scored for Oxford last week. Also the closest player we've had to Eisa before, in terms of signing him as an unknown and him hitting the ground running, and was sold after not too long, of course.

And then tried to score against us after we'd kicked the ball out of play to allow his Crawley team-mate to get treatment. Luckily Steve Elliott was having none of it. I think he was subbed at HT by Evans because of that...

And the fact he'd completely bottled it from the stick he was getting. That was by far his worst performance at WR, even without the poor sportsmanship.

Penn doing a Keown to Thomas when we scored from the resulting counter attack was one of the greatest moments in WR history.
