Notts County 3-2 up against Bristol Rovers of L1

Pope doing the business to defeat Oxford of L1.

Puts our defeats at those two large stadia in to perspective.

County win 4-2 in the end.

Let’s hope we avoid both L2 rivals in the next round.

Doesn't look that we will have to worry about the next round unless we pull out our fingers in second half! Disgraceful first half .

I would say they have another two goals in them, we probably have zero in us

Colchester losing at home to National South team Oxford City. Nearly as pathetic as our effort.

Maidstone are 5th in National League; Oxford City are 21st (i.e. second from bottom) of National League South. Oxford City are therefore 40 places below Maidstone. Without making any excuses for today's debacle, I would say that Colchester's result was significantly more pathetic than ours. Also worth bearing in mind that Maidstone are only 14 places below us in the pyramid.

To put it another way, Colchester lost to a team 61 places below them; we also to a team 14 places below us. Neither we nor Colchester covered ourselves in glory, but it puts things in a fairer perspective.

Colchester didn't concede 4 goals though. It's not the losing that has got fans frustrated as these things happen its how poor the performance was and how easy we made it for them.

You could equally say Colchester failed to even score against a team 61 places below them.
And I did make it clear that I wasn't seeking to excuse our inept first half display. In fairness to Maidstone, although we did our best to make them look good, they played far better than most on here expected and we clearly underestimated them.
