I know many players do cope with promotion from the Con but this is not a big surprise seeing as he went from Colchester to Woking in the first place. Maybe not up to league standard suggesting there is quite a step up between non league and EFL.

There is clearly a step up from conf to lg2 however I note a few of the Grimsby team have gone up to Shrewsbury with Hurst and are excelling whilst only Waters from our outstanding team has really thrived since. The sad thing for Holman is he just looks a totally different player since our promotion season he carries no threat and seems shot of all confidence.

Being left out and loaned out doesn't help anyone's confidence.

But that wasn't the case with Holman, he was given a lot of games but I can't think of a single game where he looked anything like the same player, he looked a yard off the pace and almost scared to shoot.

Was Holman given a lot of games? He got injured in our last PSF in 2016 and he played the first couple of games with that injury – he was then out for some time, coming back in fits and starts. I’ve checked and he made a total of 18 starts and 10 sub appearances in 16/17.

This season, he was a 93rd min sub against Morecambe, played 45 mins at Oxford before being subbed, played the full 90 mins against a Swans u21 side and was a 71st min sub against West Ham. I admit he did not look like scoring in either of them.

His last game for us was as a 79 min sub against Exeter – in that game he finally seemed to have a bit of a glow about him, running channels and chasing down defenders. He then got his reward by working his way to a goal in injury time. Yes, the Exeter defence may have switched off, but he got the goal nonetheless. We then had a reserve game a few days later and he managed to score two goals in that. His confidence finally appeared to be back – so we farm him out on loan to Boreham Wood.

I am not for a second saying that Holman is going to be a massive loss and that he was the saviour, but I don’t think he’s been given a fair crack this season, and I genuinely believe he would have offered more against Yeovil had he been given the opportunity to come on.

I don’t read into his Col U place at all, when he was with them, they were a League 1 team and, as I’ve been told by a Col U supporting work colleague, the one place they weren’t struggling at the time was up front.

Agree with the above. We ditched Dan just as he was looking dangerous and offering the type of threat no one else in the squad can.

I might go as far to say that Gary froze Holman out deliberately as soon as his form was coming back. If he had fallen out and Gary wanted Dan gone, then it is easier to justify to the fans if he is not playing rather than banging them in each week. Played him just enough to be attractive to other teams, without making him unsaleable in the eyes of the fans.
