The real surprise was that Manny took a couple of really good free kicks and was unlucky that at least one of them didn't end up in the net.

Thought the free kicks were decent efforts; especially those from Eisa - unlucky. However the corners, although much better when Ilias took them our players all seemed to swarm around to the same spot [bees to a honey pot] crowding each other getting in each others way. Consequently no-one hanging back for any ricochets so missing potential opportunities.

Edge of the box positioning from Storer has been a problem for two years. Often our corners were the best way for other teams to attack as when it was headed out they picked it up unchallenged and off they went. Usually poor positioning and lack of pace from Storer to blame. This is why we need Nige in the team to pick up those balls and get them back in the box/out wide.

Yatesy used to be good at that role: if, by some miracle, the ball was headed clear before Jules got to it, Yates was always on hand to smash the ball back in the general direction of the goal. Usually nowhere actually *near* the goal itself - but at least it prevented the opposition from breaking out.

We find ourselves in violent agreement here.....that midfielder on the edge of the box is a good way to reduce the speed of the counter attack - and also, occasionally, smash one in from the edge of the box

What if the ball gets knocked out nowhere near the one man on the edge of the box? A lot of the time it goew out to the side and a break begins from there. Opposition are sneaky like that, always trying to retain posession

That's why an edge of box player who can take a good starting position, anticipate, react fast, and run is important. Which is where Storer was lacking on every count.

Of course they won't be able to get every ball or good clearances/passes, but the vast majority of headed or scrambled clearances from corners are just aimless, looping and relatively central.
