Good idea if we can make the signings we need.

Puts more of the onus on players. Currently, a squad player can stay at their club for the first half dozen games to see if they get a game and then leave if not. Now they need to decide whether to stick or twist before the first game.

Could see richer clubs hoarding players for the same reason; if you can’t try them out and release / loan out / replace if no good then clubs may hoard players they are uncertain about so they can use the ones who are good and bench the ones who are not.

We would have been stuck with Flatt until Christmas, unless we signed two keepers in the summer, for example.

Flinders was out of contract so could have signed at any time

In recent seasons we have started the season without a full squad, because we are still trying to sign players.
As such, an earlier finish to the transfer window will be helpful
However, we will still play several games while trying to tie up loan deals - it may in fact become more difficult to sign players on loan in the early part of the window - especially if the players are close to the squad of their parent club

I have always said that transfer windows need to operate in conjunction with an A-list squad which has a maximum number of players (around 25), forcing clubs to manage their squad, especially at the top levels.

I find the third point in the article confusing
"Register players who ceased to be registered with a Club during the period up until the August 31, 2018"
This appears almost as a get around - surely he does not mean that a player can be de-registered in this period and then sign for another club? That seems to suggest that only transfers for fees are effectively off limits!
Players without contract can of course be signed at any time anyway - I cannot see this being changed, (although it could happen a year later if UK and EU employment law start to diverge).
