A good dose of realism: “ It’s chicken and egg again as we can’t pay the big wages due to the financial fair play rules due to our average gate. If we could bring in a top striker and treble or quadruple our gate, that’d be great, but it doesn’t work that way around. You have to treble or quadruple your gate and then you can afford the next group of salary.”
Because FGR seemingly have an infinite amount of funds behind them and there are ways around FFP, such as the owner can pump as much "sponsorship" money into the club as he wants to, given he's also the main sponsor. I'd guess.

TIG being a pain in the @ss to read
and
My cliché bingo card is full.
If what you are paraphrasing is that we go with what we have. Then it would seem that the Mo and Pell money can not be used because of FFP? If that is the case, I would have been firmly behind keeping Mo, unless the money equated to the ability to immediately embark on non football revenue provision. If what you are saying is correct (and I have no reason to doubt it). How are you ever meant to benefit, in so far as the playing squad is concerned?
Seems are only hope now is a couple of chap loans and attempt to offload those in January, who have not made the grade but are on contract. Depressing or what ?
Of course, rather than blame FFP - something you've known about all along, or should have done - one alternative is to galvanise the players you've signed and play them in a system that suits them.
Why sign Maddox if he ends up playing on the left wing when he isn't a left winger but a central midfielder?

two games in and we already have square pegs in round holesArtemis wrote:Of course, rather than blame FFP - something you've known about all along, or should have done - one alternative is to galvanise the players you've signed and play them in a system that suits them.

Or maybe players don't want to play for GJ. Financial fair play hasn't stopped past managers being able to bring in experienced strikers who at the time were exciting signings like cureton, Harrad, Benson. If it was such an issue why we're we bidding 200k for a striker?

a) it is wages not transfers which are a factor for FFP so £200k not an issueBenctfc wrote:Or maybe players don't want to play for GJ. b) we have signed experienced players from higher placed teams like Long, Hussey, Mullins, Tozer etc who will high earners by our standards along with Forster and Dawson. So we might be towards the limit of what wage bill we can sustain.
c) some of those names you list go way back...lower wages, bigger gates boosted by cup runs and play off campaigns, and who knows what the Chairman was putting in and getting around FFP like other clubs do.

And the signing on fees in lieu of wages. FGR wage bill may be capped by FFP but they can spend what they want in signing on fees.Robin wrote:FFP is essentially a % of revenue and cash at the club. Clubs like FGR and Mansfield really don't seem to have a problem here.
