Woken up to the news that Steve Cotterill is odds on favourite to take, thoughts?
For me he'd be a great appointment but not sure if this is founded or not as expecting it to be either Carsley, Bowyer or Gill.
Cotterill bookies favourite

Surely neither Russ Milton or Jack Lester have any realistic chance and no idea why Paul Buckle is even on there! Interestingly no Jerry Gill or Lee Carsley two names being touted a lot.
Simon Grayson or Ian Holloway would be fantastic appointments but seem a stretch to me.

I think those names have been pulled out of a hat. Hardly any realistic options on that list apart from Gary Bowyer. You’d expect Keith Curle to be on the shortlist, Lee Carsley, Jerry Gill.

We usually end up discussing Cotterill’s return every season so maybe the bookies finally think it must happen.
I agree I'd imagine our shortlist would be Carsley, Curle, Bowyer and Gill.I-Love-CTFC wrote:I think those names have been pulled out of a hat. Hardly any realistic options on that list apart from Gary Bowyer. You’d expect Keith Curle to be on the shortlist, Lee Carsley, Jerry Gill.

The fact Paul Buckle is 16-1 means we should take the list with a heavy pinch of salt!!
Certainly interesting times, I've always touted Gill before but would be a risk now, as would anyone. My main reasons were his youth work at Norwich etc and at Bath he is getting a reputation for playing good football and giving young, hungry players a chance and i think this is something the club needs back to get fans back "on side"

Just checked the latest odds again and Russ Milton and Jack Lester have shortened, are people seriously betting on these two?! Carsley at 5/4 tells it's own story whilst Cotts has drifted to 4-1 2nd favourite. Gary Bowyer also shortened slightly to 14-1 otherwise no real movement.

Carsley did enter the betting at 4/1 into 5/4 now I was told him two weeks ago but could be wrong.

hasnt Carsley said previously when offered the top job at Blues and Brentford that he would rather be a number 2?Fuller wrote:Carsley is a friend of the Chairman and he would be my choice.
Whoever makes up these odds ?
Jack Lester
Cotterill would bring the fans back.
Carsley looks good,an organiser was "out of possession coach" for England u21`s,has worked with Cotterill who doesn`t suffer fools.A good age 44 experienced and ambitious.Robin wrote:I kind of hope it is Carsley and we make a quick appointment. He has a great reputation and again known for developing players and building team spirit based upon his stints at Brentford and Blues.
Well there we have the answer, Cotterill aided by Carsley.everyman wrote:Carsley looks good,an organiser was "out of possession coach" for England u21`s,has worked with Cotterill who doesn`t suffer fools.A good age 44 experienced and ambitious.Robin wrote:I kind of hope it is Carsley and we make a quick appointment. Cotts for me every time. There is a bit of cash for the right couple of players we need and I'm sure he would be able to sort out the wheat from the chaff and restore whatever is lacking amongst the current players. Come on Stevie let's restore a bit of pride at the Robs!

Yup, why would he come back to one of the smallest clubs in the EFL?Malabus wrote:Millionaire Cotterill would be laughing at this thread.
Only due to his past involvement. And if the squad is as awful as those judging after four games of not all the squad being available believe it to be then why would he risk coming back only to take us down and tarnish the memories of his first spell.
Paul Buckle 16/1
Obviously Cotterill would be the dream, his record at this level is outstanding, but I'm certainly not holding my breath on that one ever happening. Obviously the old romantic in me would like Jerry Gill as it's someone that knows the club and is easy to get right behind as the fans know him. Unfortunately, I feel it will be someone that doesn't know the club and could be another Buckle or could be a Ward. Let's hope whoever it is is more of a Ward.

Sometimes people can't resist one last challenge!
Re comments on Russ, when he stood in before he had much less experience than he has now. He has witnessed all the good and bad points from Gary's regime which should hold him in good stead. How many times has he stood there thinking 'I wouldn't do it that way' and I suspect Gary may not be a good listener to opinion.

Latest odds:
Lee Carsley
1/2
Jerry Gill
4/1
Gary Bowyer
8/1
Russell Slade
8/1
Steve Cotterill
12/1
Kenny Miller
16/1
Graham Westley
18/1
Jack Lester
18/1
Russell Milton
18/1
Gary Caldwell
20/1
Ian Holloway
25/1
Lee Johnson
25/1
Paul Buckle
25/1
Phil Brown
25/1
Robbie Neilson
25/1
Pleasing to see both Milton and Lester drifting out as expected but worrying to see Slade such short odds, he'd be a disaster in my view. Hearing some rumours Carsley is not ruled out but cannot be appointed immediately and SC is unlikely but not impossible.

Up and coming, doing a good job down the road, realistic option, actual managerial experience.Robin wrote:Why Gill? He seems one of the least qualified.

If either Milton or Gill get this job full time. You will see my season Ticket thrown on the pitch from the Car park the same day.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:Up and coming, doing a good job down the road, realistic option, actual managerial experience.Robin wrote:Why Gill? I don't see why Gill would be such a bad option. As RCS says, he's doing a good job at Bath, and he knows this club, its expectations and limitations. Everyone's got to have a start in the League somewhere, so why not Gill, here?

Because we are in a world of sh1t right now and i believe we need someone who has been there and has the experience to get out of it. We are in deep deep trouble at the minute and before long we will be left behind.Shade wrote:I don't see why Gill would be such a bad option.
