As always it will be intereseting to see how the next few days develop. I have seen a few names mentioned Carsley,Gill,Hendrie,Bowyer it will be interesting if we go for a younger manager early in his career trying to make an impression or go for an older reliable manager who we have gone for in the past.

Hendrie as in Lee Hendrie? Not sure I like the sound of that or Jerry Gill. Carsley has an excellent reputation and Bowyer did fantastic jobs at Blackburn and Blackpool.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see both Carsley and Hendrie who both have strong links to the chairman

I would not let Lee Hendrie manage his own snot. Absolute clown.

Has Hendrie got any relevant qualifications? Carsley is a great coach but didn't want to take over Brentford or Blues when there....

Both? I'd say one or the other. Carsley would be the favourite.

Hendrie doesn't have a great track record with his own money let alone anyone elses.

There is one experienced league manager with several lower league promotions on CV who has very recently become available.

Carlsey would be a bit of a coup given how highly rated he is as a coach whether that translates to being a good manager we would have to see. Even Gill to be fair has done a lot of coaching at bigger clubs and is an up and coming manager. I get the feeling the chairman will want to make a statement and get a big name in maybe a former player who has played at a decent level.

Like? You're not seriously suggesting Mike Duff, are you?

Unfortunately I don't get to see a list of applicants or who's available! No I can't see Mike Duff coming here I would imagine it will be Carsley if i had to guess at this stage.

What former players are out there and why do we want a former player exactly? Gill seems to be getting mentioned largely because he played for us.

I think Gill gets mentioned as much because he did well at Wolves academy and is doing a good job at Bath - the ex-player link is very much a bonus.

He's not my first choice, but then my first choice is unlikely to come to Cheltenham (Gary Bowyer if anyone's interested).

I'd take Bowyer and would view that as an ambitious but realistic appointment, we need to act quick though as Notts County may be in for him if Nolan is sacked.

Steve MacLaren will likely be available after Saturday.

No, I'm not really being serious.

But your line "maybe a former player who has played at a decent level" points to really only one player. Many others at league one, a few a flirt for a season or two in the championship. But only Duff Jnr has consistently played at a decent level.

We have to get this right, not just in terms of experience as a manager and coach, but as a motivator and leader, and most importantly someone who can work within the clubs existing budgets, and ethos.

Remember the last times we tried radical?!?

In fairness, benctfc said "a former player" - he didn't say "a former CTFC player."

And I wonder how much involvement PB will have in the process? Plenty I hope!

That's true ASL....thanks for pointing that out. And yes, I see what you mean BenCTFC. Or a player manager. Kenny Miller?

What, the man who went over 90 games without sacking our worst ever league manager?

Whoever the new man or woman is, let’s hope they enough experience and connections in the game to sign experience pros like Mullins and Hussey. Someone with promotions on their CV and some time at a higher, or even international level would be ideal.

Yeah and more importantly someone who can average more than a point a game over 100 matches.

Would Devaney be an option? Doing a good job with Barnsley’s academy.

McCann has gone to Doncaster so won't be an option.

McCann would have been ideal in my view but we did nothing when he was briefly available last season
and now it's too late.
Cotts would be great but I just cant see him coming down to league 2

Sorry I should have clarified when I said former player I meant potentially someone who played at a high level not an ex ctfc player.

The only thing that might make Cotts come back is that he has failed at a couple of Championship clubs and, if he wants to manage again, he may have to drop down again. But I still think there is only a tiny chance that might actually happen.

Agree Shade, I suspect Cotts will want a decent league one side with hopes of promotion however the fact we have decent money may give us a chance.

Whilst a seven figure transfer fee may be a lot for us, by the standards of other clubs in this division it's chicken feed. Especially as i suspect the board will want to put some aside for the inevitable rainy day.

With a few exceptions it's definitely not chicken feed. Jon Palmer has reported our wage budget is top half for this league and you'd imagine that's without heavilly draining the fees from the summer.
