Good player, having a good season, can't believe we only gave him 1 year yet handed out 2 years to others. Hopefully he'll see the benefit in getting a regular game in a team where he plays an important role & which is improving. No point selling as funding a decent replacement would be difficult - we haven't replaced Pell and even the large fee from Eisa presented its own set of problems.

Fair enough, I thought he'd been in & out of the Rovers team. He's looked at home at L2 level from the start.

Especially when GJ has been vilified for offering 2 year deals to players with more experience.paperboy wrote:Agree entirely. Hindsight is wonderful .Si Robin wrote:1 year made sense at the time - he was unproven in the League and had only made first team appearances at National League level.

It was McAlinden specifically I was talking about:horlickfanclub wrote:Players with experience like Debayo,Duku ,McAlinden and Smith Regency ?
2012/13: 1 championship appearance
2013/14: 16 League One appearances with 4 L1 goals
2014/15: 6 Championship appearances, 19 L1 appearances and 4 L1 goals
2015/16: 8 L1 and 6 L2 appearances
2017/18: 27 L2 appearances and playing 4 rounds of FA Cup including vs West Brom
In total, 55 FL starts across three divisions and 68 FL sub appearances.
That’s a reasonable amount of experience in my book. On paper a decent signing. But as we know from the last twenty years, plenty of players who look good signings on face value turn out to be poor or don’t gel or fit in for whatever reason - Taylor and Richards especially who joined us with much more experience and at a higher level than Penn and Pack but were not as good for us for example.
Happens at all clubs. Some punts turn out to be great signings and some signings which look ideal on paper turn out to be flops. Even the teams top of the Premier League experience this most years so it is by no means unique to Yates or Johnson.

Feel a bit sorry for Debayo. Seemed to me to only get so much stick from fans because he was a GJ signing. Had Duff signed him then I suspect those who hounded Debayo out would probably be rejoicing that Duff signed someone with so much pace and exciting potential.Robin wrote:Duku made sense giving him a two year deal considering we paid a five figure fee for him. Debayo is puzzling considering he was brought in as cover only and was young.
I personally hope Josh gets a second chance at Cheltenham. Especially in the new system where his defensive inexperience will be less exposed. And for all we see (the experienced signing) Hussey and (the punt) Addai dominating the flanks with ease and sending in cross after cross I have yet to see a ball delivered as well as Debayo’s vs Carlisle.
Robertson for Liverpool and Sessegnon for Fulham both whipped in similar balls a month or two back, leading to goals, but I personally don’t think either of them were as good as Debayo’s.
I would have him in the match day squad as cover for Hussey, or to bring on if we need some pace and wing play late on to try and change a game.

I agree. He can cover for Hussey as Field probably will not be back. Michael Duff should be able to improve him as a defender where Johnson and Downes failed.

Yes, the most exciting thing about Duff is his ability to improve and develop young players after his experience at Burnley.horlickfanclub wrote:I agree. As his price has gone up from £50k to £500k in the time this thread has been going, I say we keep him until the summer when he will be worth approximately £68,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.
That is if we allow the nest to dictate his value!!
Happy New Year one and all, I think 2019 is going to be a good year for the mighty Robins

The Nest valued Mo Eisa at £1-1.5m. You mocked that. ‘Nuff said.Ben3 wrote:As his price has gone up from £50k to £500k in the time this thread has been going, I say we keep him until the summer when he will be worth approximately £68,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

(Despite people thinking we got more and not understanding that’s why we don’t have millions to spend )
Now we didn't total deal is worth over a million but it wasn't all paid as one lump sum.
