A striker like Alan Shearser would have closed him down back in the day.

See other thread about Duff instructing players not to close down as it meant the keeper’s poor distribution giving us possession back, whereas chasing down would leave a defender free for an easy outball.
If a team like to play out from the back, then marking defenders and forcing the keeper to kick long is the text book way to stop their passing game. Watch Liverpool do the same vs City on Thursday.
When tiki taka wankers want you to close to free up space it is vital not to fall in to their trap.
