Duffy's Debut.

Talk about other football teams at all levels. AND ANY Glos City related threads, even if talking about the groundsharing.

Having finally decided who will be in the Indian League for the season, scrapping the two legged cup competition and reverting to a group competition in early January, the fixtures for the Indian I-League have now been released.

Daryl Duffy's Salgaocar will open their fixtures in a Goa derby away* to champions Churchill Brothers.

*away means little in this context, the games being played at a shared venue.

Four of the clubs are from Goa, four more from Calcutta, two from Mumbai, two from the state of Meghalaya and one each from Pune and Bangalore.

I would love to spend some time in India, but not as turn up, watch footy, go home trip.
The big Kolkata (for the benefit of asl) derby matches have been fixed for November 24 and April 12 and I would love to be at one of these.
There may be as few as nine stadiums in use (and this is an increase on recent years), with the Cooperage in Mumbai out of action until the spring, so the Mumbai clubs will continue to share in Pune for most of the season
The Goan clubs will shift around three stadia, Tilak Maidan, Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium and the Duler Stadium where Duffy plays his first game. Kolkata games will be played either at Salt Lake or Barasat with the derbies at Salt Lake (they actually attract a crowd).

The number of clubs in the Indian League has been reduced to 13 following the withdrawal of new boys Mumbai Tigers. Having removed two Mumbai based clubs (ONGC and Air India) from the league, the AIFF named Mumbai Tigers as one of the two new "franchise teams", along with Bangalore. The AIFF dropped their own development team, Palian Arrows from the league last week which gave a 14 team league, the same as last season.

It remains to be seen if the AIFF will go with 13, restart the Arrows, bring back one of the other Mumbai clubs (no football is actually to be played in Mumbai until near the end of the season, due to the lack of a suitable stadium), or find another solution.

Well, not quite yet, RCS. The second division does not play a full season, and the reference you saw was to the 2013 season. This was three groups, (two of nine teams, one of 8) playing a single round robin at a single venue - followed by a final group, six teams (top two from each qualification group) playing a double round robin - apparently still all in the single venue of Bangalore. Bangalore were awarded a franchise promotion, and were not entered. Mumbai Tigers finished 5th out of 6, but were also given a franchise as the only club in the final six not from the North East. It does appear odd to play a series of games featuring five north Eastern teams, three from Kolkata in Bangalore. The equivalent in Europe would be to have a promotion group involving three Newcastle team, one each from Sunderland and Middlesbrough, one from Cornwall - and to play the matches in Morocco.
