Lincoln Red Imps of Gibralta take on (another minnow-league side) Celtic tonight in the Champions League qualifiers.
Should be a close game and I fancy the Mediterranean side to get something on the Rock in today's home leg.
Come on you Imps!

Don't they play their European games in Portugal and not in Gibraltar?RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:Lincoln Red Imps of Gibralta take on (another minnow-league side) Celtic tonight in the Champions League qualifiers.

1-0 to LRI so far! If this keeps up we will have to question whether the Scottish League is much better than the Welsh, N. Ireland and Gibraltan Leagues.

After battling back to overcome the Red Imps Celtic are currently playing away at relative giants FC Astana.
Astana of course made it to the Champs League proper last season so have more recent pedigree than Celtic.
Going to form at 1-0 to the home side at half-time.

An outstanding result, says Rodgers...

Rodgers is a present day realist and knows the level of Scottish Leagues in Europe in 2016 and doesn't still think it's the 20th Century. In reality it is a good result for Celtic away at a team who made the Champs League proper last season, and a tougher opponent than anyone they faced in the SPL last season.Shade wrote:An outstanding result, says Rodgers...

Just because Sky and BBC treat Scottish football the same as the EPL and EFL it does not mean it is anywhere near the same standard.
One of my biggest criticisms of BBC Sport is that they give Scottish football so much more coverage than Welsh or Northern Irish it is unbelievable, when really it is much closer to that level than English leagues.
On Final Score vidiprinter they announce goals from the Scottish League 2 as they happen, but not from the Conference (better standard) or Wales or NI (the same or better standard), which makes no sense.
The reason that Scottish Football is covered in such detail is more historical than anything else. Back in 1960's, the results were very important as the fixtures were included on the Football Pools and so had to be known so you could find out if you had won a fortune.
Other leagues have been added over the years.
