CTFC vs Colchester Away Home Saturday 9th February 2019

That was a rare occasion when I actually wished I had stayed at home alongside a roaring fire watching any other footy game on telly apart from the one in front of me! Cold, damp miserable, rain sheeting down, slippery pitch, sparse crowd face with a disjointed, team who seemed to believe that going sideways and back were the only routes available. However being 3-1 down at half time seemed bad enough; but somewhere in my numbed sub consciousness I gathered it was actually 0-0. Lots of flag waving then; enlivened by the odd red card! Surely the second half would be better? Simple answer – NO! A decent goal however, giving me another 5 points, gave CTFC three. So who came out with any credit; Broome, underused and unseen for most of the time; Addai before being cruelly chopped down, Varney and a decent start by newbie; and Tim Robinson the referee. Rakish Bingham will be, I believe a decent asset when he gets up to speed on fitness, skills knowing the strengths and limitations [mainly] of his colleagues after his spell in the Scottish equivalent of Vanarama league north. The midfield, mainly absent , devoid of creativity; defence dodgy to say the least. So next Saturday; without any real enthusiasm ; hopefully we might end up with a draw, luck and any God you may or not believe in, willing! Varney [or even Rakish B....I'll ponder that over that??] to score yet again in a 1-1 draw, painfully eked out!

Told you I was in a dire place :); Colchester it is.
Interestingly everyone scored a few points Tuesday too... that's a first!

Gotta be Varney (cue Bingham scoring his first).

Bottlers. All they had to do was keep a clean sheet in the second half.

Well done JRA.

I assume those who predicted we might score didn’t go to Carlisle the other week. Having seen that slow, sideways, insipid play it was no surprise at all to read we had no shot on target today.

I did go and see, but there is always the chance that someone is going to do something special, like Varney score an overhead kick, or a long hoofed clearance downfield, a defender slips and our player runs through 1 v 1.

That sort of special moment comes but once a season - we saw it!!
As MD points out ..."how on earth did he [Varney] manage that at his age" ! :)
