Bring the total spending of 400 million pounds.

Why don't we look after our own and pump that money into local councils to avoid certain council tax increases in the near future.
Makes you wonder if all this recession non sense is just a myth to put fear into people lives in order to control.

We don't have 1/3 of our entire population fleeing the country to live in refugee camps with utterly horrible living conditions.

We are not the world's social services.

I believe that we all have a collective responsibility to stop the needless suffering of others, if it is in our power to do so. I'm not sure that it necessarily is in our power, but I do not accept the view that we should just shrug our shoulders, say 'not our problem' and keep sitting around in our comfortable houses watching the television because these things are happening on the other side of some arbitrarily drawn lines on a map.

There are countries surrounding Syria that are just as wealthy as the UK who believe it's none of their business to get involved. Syria has nothing to do with us. Where there are Muslims there will be slaughter, we do not need to do anything. I also must strongly add that there is no valid proof that Bashar al-Assad used chemicals weapons or that any nerve agent was launched by either the government or the rebels (Al-Qaeda). The refugees pouring into Jordan is a result of war fuelled by Israel and the USA.

I do no accept that just because others can look on at suffering without intervening that we should.

Neither did India, Kenya or the tens of other countries that we have invaded solely for our own gain as a nation in the last few hundred years. We were (and still are) happy to exploit their natural resources when it suited us. Yet when there are genuine humanitarian reasons to intervene (which may have a cost) we should stay out. Not an attitude I wish to associate myself with.

Frankly, I find that statement disgusting.

There are very few, if any, things that we ever NEED to do. It is about morality and ethics. We SHOULD be looking to limit unnecessary suffering, wherever possible.

Fine; and here I acknowledge that I may be in a minority of one here, but I do not see why the use of chemical weapons is the 'red line'. I would think that the deaths of upwards of 100,000 people should be a trigger point in itself. Did we learn nothing from Rwanda? The world sat and watched as somewhere between 500,000 and 1,000,000 people were murdered, women were raped and mutilated and children were armed with machetes and automatic weapons and encouraged to mutilate and kill. But of course, they also had neighbouring countries, so it wasn't any of our business was it? As far as I am concerned, the mechanism of death is unimportant, simply the fact that these humanitarian aberrations have occurred. In addition, I'd love to know why you equate 'the rebels' solely with Al-Qaeda.
