Students in Cheltenham, you won't be pleased to know your rented student homes are the fourth most profitable for investors in the country.

That might be bad news for students but it is even worse for owner occupiers in the neighbourhoods who find it very difficult to sell their own properties when there are students living close by due to the noise and general anti social behaviour of these nocturnal creatures.

Very true - a lot of lovely residential streets around the UK desecrated as more and more students move in and mess the area up.

Can be very stressful too. Council are not very helpful either.

Little known government policy a few years back let you convert houses into flats or bedsits without planning permission or without having to tell the council until it was done. It was a year or so long policy and councils were powerless to stop it. A couple of streets in Newcastle changed from being 90% £500k town houses or nice apartments to 90% student bedsits overnight. Prompted good local resistance and campaigns, including a new law from the local council banning to let signs being left out 365 days a year.

I am surprised the students didn't use them as firewood.

Going back to the OP, students in Cheltenham should be grateful investors buy places and let them live there :)
