The leader of the EDL, Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (aka Tommy Robinson) makes another headline grabbing stunt.

I'm certainly not pro-EDL, although I would like the muslim community/leaders to do more to seek out Islamist extremists within their ranks - for their own good if not everyone elses - but the writer of that 2nd article appears to be writing purely from widespread belief than actual fact. Which is ironic given part of the article.

If they procure government funding for whatever his next project is, there should be street protests. A violent racist claims to quit his violent racist group and a couple of days later he is being introduced to government contacts? He should, in the parlance of the EDL, 'f#!$ off back to where he came from' (sic), namely under a slime-covered rock where nobody knows or gives a sh1t about his name.

To reject a certain religion or creed isn't a racist act.

Anybody who believes that the EDL isn't a racist 'organisation' needs their head examined. However, I accept that religion does not fall within the bounds of race (with the possible exception of Judaism). However, to reject an entire religion on the basis of a tiny proportion who are extremists is still utterly abhorrent. I don't reject all British people on the basis of a small number of small-minded bigoted extremists. I just reject their ideas.
