Youth mental health and suicide increases.

Don't just blame it on not getting jobs....Youth have been forced to battle/compete to get jobs with the huge increase in immigration this adds more strain and pressure; also the country is just too expensive, we get ripped off and just take it, no fight. The weather has a great impact on mood, melatonin and serotonin is produced by sunlight, helps us sleep and happy, there is no sunlight in this country.

Not enough jobs but unfortunately the government don't care.
When every job loss or closure of a mental health service or youth employment centre shuts the FTSE and bonuses go up the government pop open the champagne. I genuine believe Osborne and Cameron wish more of them would commit suicide such is their hatred and disdain of the majority of our population.
As Mal says, it is not just jobs - environment and social conditions are so degrading for anyone who can't afford the latest gadget, clothes or cosmetic surgery. People are conditioned to only aspire to consume and if there are no jobs you can't do that.
After I graduated I had to do volunteering for six months to keep busy and keep my confidence up, having experienced many of the issues highlighted. Luckily through my privilege and connections I was able to pay for private medical care and move on to get good jobs in London. Most are not so lucky and are condemned as Mal highlights.
Now there are even fewer jobs and due to constant cuts even less opportunity to volunteer or develop your skills through training.
Yes the weather and lack of housing can cause problems as Mal said. Before people suffering could go to the local support centre or NHS centre and get help through socialising and through professional care. Such places are far and few between now, closed by the government to divert funds to the square mile.
Makes me sick how selfish people are in this country and how people who are perfectly comfortable and well of support the slow rotting death of their fellow citizens for a few more quid they don't need.
Especially when more effort and passion is shown trying to stop quite inconsequential things like gay marriage or wind farms or campaigning to kill foxes. If all of that effort was spent trying to help our society develop our country would be a lot happier and better.

"Lazy British", been listening to Boris Johnson again? Average Briton puts in 42.7 hours a week, only residents of Austria and Greece work more hours on average.ctfc-fan wrote:Mal, you moan about immigrants but to be fair, they take the jobs the lazy British cannot be bothered with. Perhaps you should go for those who take benefits for no reason other than they can't be arsed?
The highest amount of social security goes to pensioners.
The highest amount of working age social security goes to people in work.
Benefit fraud amounts to around 1 billion, known tax evasion is around 25 billion. It's clear which is the bigger problem.
Not at all. I think all politicians are buffoons. It's my view from what I've seen with my own eyes and in nearly 15 years being in business.Joey wrote:"Lazy British", been listening to Boris Johnson again? pfft not enough jobs...
I've got as many opportunities as I can fill, constantly looking to recruit, and I pay above the living wage. Yet the young people in this country don't want to get up early, or work late, for more or less than 16 hrs a week, or at weekends, or if something better comes up, if the weather is bad, or if the weather is good, or because the work is beneath them. Those that do work are doing me a massive favour by going to work too, not the other way round. I've even had it suggested in team meetings (while discussing poor absence) that I should reward people with bonuses for going to work!!!

One extreme is it is result of our society's culture.
Kids get bullied at school for being clever and wanting to learn.
Magazines, music videos and TV shows all suggest people have a divine right to material wealth without trying.
Why would you go to work on a weekend when your mates are out buying yet more tat in Primark or why would you want to work a whole day when your mates are down at Happy Hour at 4pm? If a gang member gives a vulnerable kid new trainers if he bunks off school and carries a knife for him then why study and work? Unfortunately these lifestyles have been glamourised by the media for so long. Government are happy as they get rich by it and because it keeps people ignorant and stops any threat of overthrowing the political elite or forcing them to change.
When you get kids at school saying their goal is to win the X-Factor or marry a footballer, rather than get educated and get a good job you know our nation has lost the plot somewhere.
Obviously that is an extreme and only effects the lowest skilled in more deprived areas, but I am sure Baggy will find a hard-working Romanian who spent every penny going to school and coming to the UK who will be happy to work overtime.
Another problem is that most low-skilled jobs are in supermarkets or call centres. Underpaid and with no pride.
If you're treated like a disposable object paid minimum wage stacking shelves to help make our biggest monopoly companies even richer and you see the owner's DB9 on the way to a home you can't afford to heat then what joy is there to be had. At least if someone is making or mining something they can see how it contributes to the lives of the population rather and has a meaning.
Supermarkets and the like are no better than medieval serfdom or Victorian workhouses.
Yet at the other end of the spectrum we always have a shortage of chemists and engineering and have to import people from around the world to fill the gaps and work in our leading pharma and high-tech industries.
Something isn't right, that's for sure.
Basic evidence is conflicting and only points to one thing - plenty of money around but in the pockets of very few people
massive problem of youth unemployment
unaffordable transport, energy and housing
pay decreases in real terms
lack of services
alongside
record ftse 100 growth in 2013
growing GDP
house price inflation

I blame the X-Factor style programs and the culture of I want/deserve everything now.
The young adults who used to go down the pits or up chimneys or whatever had it worse than a lot today who don't have jobs - reason they're depressed, etc? Having the good fortune of other talentless cretins, who are famous for no good reason, shoved down their throats on TV and in the papers and basically being told they're useless by twats like Simon Cowell because they can't make a dog dance or hit a high note.

A government where the needs of the people are more important than the needs of greedy corporation and media tycoons would be a start.Shade wrote:It won't change no matter who is in charge, unless we become commies/Kim Jong-un takes over the world...maybe.Joey wrote:It's not going to change while the powers that be remain where they are.

Daily Mail alert - just because it is a convenient way of showing a link to an OECD chart (from here: http://www.oecd.org/social/soc/dividedw ... rising.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... tries.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
What does that show? That countries far from communist like Denmark and Sweden (with all the binge drinking, banks and massive corporations we have) have a far lower differential between highest wages and lowest wages. Why? Because the government and people care.
Two easy options:
1. Slightly more extreme. Simple regulation of the ratio of highest earner to lowest earner at a company. Within a company not between companies. So if firms or football clubs want to pay shed-loads to top earners they still can, as long as the bottom salaries are within the income ratio.
2. Pay a living wage and enforce it.
I am not usually one to post Polly Toynbee links as I'm not a fan of her idealism and left-wing rants for left-wing's sakes but this is a good article on the above points, and even makes a suggestion to Mal on how immigration may be reduced:
