Putin hates women, homosexuals, Muslims, foreigners, Jews, Europe, equality and democracy - so ticks all of Mal's boxes.Shade wrote:I know you're a communist sympathiser but surely you don't want our biggest allies becoming cosy with the biggest country that would happily take a massive s#!t all over us?
(Though in contrast to Mal's environmentalism, animal welfarism and devotion to Krishna)
Putin loves destroying the earth with all manner of outdated machinery (just see those ships pumping out c!#p whilst going through the Channel a couple of weeks ago) and killing endangered animals with his bare hands. Especially Bald Eagles (don't know if they're endangered, actually, but that's not really my point)

The choice they have does give us a reality check in regards to the calibre of politician we have over here. Those poor sods only have a choice between a lying crook and a nut job! Whereas we have the choice between Mrs May and a nut job

But a Trump win would not be a major shock. Much like Brexit, I suspect many of the don"t knows are trump supporters just trying to avoid ridicule from the elite
They can support neither and vote independent.confused.com wrote:The choice they have does give us a reality check in regards to the calibre of politician we have over here. For all we knock the Yanks, they are following up a black President with either a woman or a man with learning difficulties/intellectual disability so are progressive in terms of minorities reaching high office.
Or as South Park have been portraying it, a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich. Well worth a watch.confused.com wrote:The choice they have does give us a reality check in regards to the calibre of politician we have over here. We are witnessing a global revolution where all forms of liberalism to be banished.
France and Germany elections next year in which we will see right wing control. Right wingers always has to clear up the liberals mess, look at the history books.

The chapter 'Right Wing control in Germany 1930-1945' is the most telling'.Malabus wrote:We are witnessing a global revolution where all forms of liberalism to be banished.

A by-product of liberalism. That was WW2.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:The chapter 'Right Wing control in Germany 1930-1945' is the most telling'.Malabus wrote:We are witnessing a global revolution where all forms of liberalism to be banished.

So the Giant Douche wins. 2 months to get those radiation shelters built, folks. In all honesty, though, he's pro-Brexit so we won't be frozen out there...and if you want to buy anything from America on the cheap now is a great opportunity. Most of his ridiculous ideas SHOULDN'T have a chance to actually happen as they'll get veto'd by those that have to pass the bills.

I think people are fed-up with falling living standards and rising poverty and hollowing out of the middle class caused by growing inequality, lower wages and higher house prices.Malabus wrote:Marie Caroline Le Pen's victory next year will be a by-product of liberalism. People are fed up with it.
Being less liberal and deporting non-whites, banning homosexuality, and treating women and disabled people as second class citizens does not do anything to solve inequality. That is caused by the type of exploitative, aggressive, rent-seeking capitalism we have. E.g. Philip Green robbing BHS is not a result of Liberalism, but a result on unregulated greed and unethical behaviour encouraged by business and capitalism in the west.
Simple regulation, addressing of market failure, and a new breed of politicians can solve these issues with no need to be less liberal. Same way some very inequal and countries with huge amounts of poverty (China, Russia, Turkey, etc) are the least Liberal you can get.
Malabus is again mixing up social issues (liberalism) with economic issues. If he thinks getting out the EU and getting rid of immigrants is going to stop big business and 'elites' wanting to maximise shareholder returns at a cost to society and the environment he is in on cloud cuckoo land.

We should make a free-trade deal with Mexico. We will get good terms if as they are scared NAFTA is going to end.

Malabus - what are your thoughts on Trump's climate change views?
A good summing up by Paul Mason:
"But neoliberalism no longer works. It is broken. If it survived it would have delivered at best zombie growth fuelled by central bank money and at worst stagnation. But it will not survive. Last summer I predicted that if we do not break with the economics of high inequality, high debt and low productivity, populations will vote to dismantle the global order. With Brexit and Trump that process is inexorable – and the next wave of the tsunami will hit Italy and Austria in their plebiscites on 4 December.
In the next weeks, our denial reflexes will be in full swing. But one set of people now faces a moment where only honesty will suffice. It is the economists, journalists, civil servants, bankers and policy wonks who have rubbished the idea of the existential threat.
They claimed the capitalism of the past 30 years was merely the inner essence of the system revealed, unimprovable unless by the privatisation of the last hospital and the decline of union density to zero. They were wrong; they need to place their intellectual firepower and resources – as their counterparts did in the era of Keynes and Roosevelt – in the service of designing an alternative system."
