Out of interest, has an incumbent leader of any of the main parties ever been defeated in a General or By-election? Not suggesting the remotest possibility of that happening here (although I did think Nick Clegg was in danger, last time) - just interested.

Not that I can recall in my life time, unless you count the Scottish Labour Party as a separate party (Murphy was decapitated in the Scottish Labourcide in 2015).asl wrote:Out of interest, has an incumbent leader of any of the main parties ever been defeated in a General or By-election? Corbyn may have been more at risk had the election been May 2018 as his constituency is one which is facing being split up redrawn in the boundary review.
