Narrowly lost out on becoming another British Olympic champion turned World champion on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Had a bad start, knocked down in the second round with a big cut under his right eye, but got back up and grew into the fight, eventually losing on a split decision (113-115, 114-113, 115-112) against a much fancied multiple world champion. After the fight he finally let it be known that his dad had died two weeks earlier whilst he was stuck in the US training. Say what you want about boxing and how "barbaric" it may be, but the spirit and determination that so many boxers have is remarkable.

Professional boxers are absolutely immense in their dedication and training and focus. They combine the strict weight loss of pro cyclists with the weight training of rowers, the stamina of distance runners or tennis players, and the movement and reaction of squash or table tennis players with the toughness of rugby players.Shade wrote:Narrowly lost out on becoming another British Olympic champion turned World champion on Saturday night/Sunday morning. They are on another level to ordinary people as far as I am concerned. Watching a fight is interesting and exciting enough as it is, but when you factor in the career training building up to it it really is remarkable as Shade says.
