Another thing to distract the unemployed, low paid and excluded from their own plight.

You'd have thought petitioning the government for jobs and more fairness would be better for them, but the media/politicians play them like puppets and have them blaming immigrants rather than policy makers.

When politicians and their media advertising chums persuade people to take out a Wonga loan to go down the roulette machine in the bookies and then take their possessions to cash converter to pay it back before numbing themselves from cheap supermarket liquor because they can't afford power except the odd quid in the meter then it won't be the immigrants fault. But who cares, shareholders would have made their money and the politicians will have been re-elected.

I've said before Mal - as someone who is usually very adamant and careful about government power and the manipulation of systems by a ruling elite, you haven't half been conned by the UK establishment.

Not everybody blames immigrants for every single issue that happens in the UK, you're talking about zenophobia and not the actual issue of immigration. When we have a jobs, housing and wages crisis; allowing hundreds of thousands in isn't exactly going to help the situation. The past New Labour government and the current coalition have failed to address to the problem with a real issue. The Tories will probably want to start deploying balloons with the message "IN THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY, CALL THIS NUMBER OR BUY SHARES IN THE ROYAL MAIL".

Cannot be further than the truth, not "conned" in the slightest. I only need to simply open my ocular orbits; added with some kind of intelligence and work out how full this country is.
I was walking down the lower end of the High Street yesterday and I must have counted 20+ Eastern European shops packed with foreigners, the street was shabby and I was the only English person in the radius of one kilometre, it's only a matter of time that radius will increase rapidly.
What's more annoying and most of all concerning is that the government has no idea on the figures of migration entering the UK desiring benefits handouts; jobs, houses, NHS treatment, schools, use of our overcrowded roads and sham marriages and producing children as British citizens.
I am not against migration but there should be a limit and that our British identity/culture greatly protected.

Lower high street - What shops do you think would be there if they weren't?

Last thing I want is to see boarded up premises and declining tax revenue, but each man to his own.

Numbers - yes, I admit it is unclear.

But probably more accurate than your claim to be the only English person in a kilometre radius.

Where were you stood at the time?

Even migrants are 'up in arms' on immigration.

The other side of the coin.

Celebrity and money-for-nothing culture that has infected young people means we have to rely on immigrants to do jobs that require good educational attainment:

"Companies are forced to rely on foreign-born workers in a range of “strategically important” areas as children continue to shun maths and science subjects at school.

In all, migrants account for 20 per cent of workers in fields such as oil and gas extraction, aerospace manufacturing and computer, electronic and optical engineering.

The report warns that half of the 119 occupations featured on the Government’s “shortage occupation list” – which gives firms special dispensation to employ overseas staff – require engineering skills.

Another 20 per cent involve scientific and technical roles.

The shortage is so acute that universities are also filling courses with overseas applicants, with a third of places in engineering and technology subjects taken by non-British students, the report states."

A study conducted by University College London shows there is a significant economic boost (£25 billion) to the economy by migrant workers.

Picked up by most news sources today, though I think I'll drop the Daily Mail news desk an email, as they seem to have missed it.

But reported elsewhere:

Perhaps the solution to the title of the thread is to pack our low-income pensioners off somewhere warm so that they don't have to worry about heating bills and the rest of the country can cease being ashamed at how poorly the lower income elderly are treated in this country.
