And Page and Lovett have signed and Cranston has agreed but not signed as he's on holiday.

Well I hope we are going to be signing more than "1 or 2 more" on permanently.

Or perhaps it just shows where our budget really is at ?

I make it we have 15 players total at the moment, 16 if you count Cranston who will apparently be signing. The three loans will take it to 18/19, and then we've got "1 or 2" permanents. GJ's said he wants a squad of around 20 supplemented by the 3 young guys, so I don't think we'll be far off.

We really need a GK, RB, wide MF and a couple of strikers. If the 5 players that come in are those then I can't see us doing any more business unless something too good to pass up comes across GJ's desk.

GJ said this a few weeks ago so it's not new news. Around the time of big Nige signing he stated three loans were essentially agreed and 1-2 more permanent to come. I would expect the loans to be younger players and two permanents to be first choice keeper and target man.

Of course this was said before Billy moved so he may add another permanent or loan to that list. If so, goal keeper, right sided centre half, two strikers, and maybe a right back and winger.

Squad of 20ish is fine if there aren't too many injuries but you start to get in trouble if you get unlucky.

Would want a couple of backup squad players as well as the youngsters now that we can't get emergency loans anymore.

Can't see another centre half coming in, we've already got 5 on the books. Downes and Bower are included in that but then number 4 and 5 would usually just be cover anyway.

Goalkeeper, right back, left back, central defender, wide player and 2 strikers are the absolute minimum and hope the left back stays uninjured. Whether they are loans or permanent signings doesn't matter, as long as they are good enough.

Bower will not feature very often and most likely go out on loan. Given that our current squad looks very much designed to play 5-3-2 there is absolutely no way we can go through the season with four centre halves Shade.

centre back is second only to goalkeeper in that anyone who plays there is a bespoke specialist in that position, third being an old fashioned centre forward. with the transfer rules as they stand we need to start each half of the season with adequate cover in these three main "departments"

Two for each position in a squad of 22. Four CBs and four strikers.

I wonder if Tranmere striker Andy Cooke would be worth a punt ?

Regardless of his abilities, Cooke, who has a year left on his contract at Tranmere, would command a half decent feet and no doubt, relocation expenses..

Yes players with "half decent feet" would come in handy ....

We won't be paying any fees me thinks.

Surely last season proved we need to be looking at better than conference players as much as possible?
