SSE and Npower want to merge, giving them more control in a 'market' already broken by an oligopoly.

Monopoly train operators upping prices on their protected routes yet again. Biggest rises for five years. Every UK start-up or SME which books a train ticket next year will be subsidising a CEO bonus or foreign company another 4% when just trying to go about their business.

The only winners are the monopolies themselves, pleasing the senior managers and the Tories. Biggest losers are the free-market, business and enterprise, and the economy as a whole.
