Chesterfield the winners this time, beating Luton 2-0. I guess Luton weren’t up for the physical battle and Chesterfield’s new signings were. Spirerites out of the bottom two on 24 points.

Barnet lose away to Crawley 2-0. Rooted on 20 points but with a superior goal difference.

FGR manage one shot on goal at Swindon and deservedly lose 1-0. Back in the relegation zone on 23 points.

Yeovil get a good draw away at Tom Pope, 1-1 having let for 75 mins. 28 points.

Morecambe draw 1-1 at home to Stevenage to move to 29 points. Ellison on the scoresheet once more.

Defeat for Crewe in Cumbria keeps them on 29.

Bottom up.

Barnet, played 27, points 20
FGR, played 27, points 23
Chesterfield, played 28, points 24
Yeovil, played 27, points 28
Crewe, played 27, points 29
Morecambe, played 27, points 29

Barnet close to a write off.

Remains to be seen which of Chesterfield’s and FGR’s windows will yield the biggest upturn.
how long until a phone call is made to Mr Allen?

I wouldn't be surprised if us and Barnet are six points adrift come the end of the first weekend in February. Hope I'm wrong.

Wouldn't write anyone off yet. With just 7 games to go last season the bottom 4 looked like this:

21. Hartlepool 41pts
22. Cheltenham 39 pts
---
23. Newport 33pts
24. Orient 32pts

And yet, of course, 7 games later Newport were safe and Hartlepool were relegated. Which makes me realise that, being 11pts clear with 18 games to go, we are far from safe :/ though I don't think anyone hasn't realised that

Good reminder of how quickly things can change.

Be interesting to look at seven games before that. I.e which way was was the momentum going. Currently it is Grimsby who falling like a stone.

Barnet getting cut off.

At one point it was Akinde magic, but Lincoln equalised at the Hive. 1-1 finish and entrenched in last place with 21 points.

FGR twice go behind at home to Cambridge, but the cash splash to find support for Doidge paid dividends with CD himself and new men Grubb (home debut) and Campbell (debut) both scoring to seal a 5-2 win. But for now FGR stay in the bottom two on 26.

One point ahead is Chesterfield in 22nd spot on 27 points. Anything Doidge and do Dennis can match. The dangerman scoring a late winner against Yeovil in Somerset.

Which leave Yeovil in 21st a point ahead on 28. They could be in the relegation zone this time next week as they are in Cup action. Playing Man U shouldn’t be enough to save the drowning Way, but the owner is running the club into the ground and keeping the hapless Way is the cheap option. A real risk the ‘famous non-League side’ will be returning to those ranks.

Defeats for Crewe (2-3, H, Wycombe) and Morecambe (0-1, A, Luton) leave them both on 29 points.

With Dennis looking reinvigorated and happy to stay at Chesterfield after their signings, and with Vince forking out League One money to attract players to the the village during the window the smart betting is on both these sides to survive.

My view is that Yeovil look most likely to join Barnet with low ambition and probably the worst manager in the division, but they will take it down to the wire with Crewe and Morecambe.

The mid table sides Carlisle (12th, 38 points) to Vale (18th, 32 points) will all likely have moments when fans look over their shoulder anxiously, but I don’t see any of them being dragged into the battle.

Same. However, history often sees a team fall through the trapdoor from mid-table with a horrendous run of defeats, so none of the clubs you mentioned can be ruled out in my view.

We'll be absolutely fine. There are too many clubs between us and the bottom two for us to go down. However, the playoffs are a fading dream so we'll have to settle for lower mid table.

I have to agree, unless all four of those sides earmarked by RCS pull of some incredible signing, there is less than 10% chance we will be in trouble as there are at least four much worse sides than ours.

Morecambe gain a creditable draw away at Newport on Tuesday night, 1-1, which takes them to 30 points.

Morecambe P29 30pts
Crewe P28 29pts
Yeovil P28 28pts
Chesterfield P29 27 pts
FGR P28 26pts
Barnet P28 21pts

Yeovil stuffed after a powder puff cup performance. The hapless Way could be bottom two come Saturday evening.

Could be a big weekend.

HT update:

Barnet embarrassing Cheltenham to close the gap to FGR to just two points, with Cooper's big money signings trailing at Carlisle. Chesterfield holding Stevenage in Derbyshire.

Crewe shocking Swindon and Morecambe beating Mansfield means Morecambe close to within a point of Cheltenham as it stands, with Crewe a point further back, sandwiching Vale.

Gary Johnson's side looking clueless at the moment and like sitting ducks. The next 45 minutes will determine whether any other sides (Cheltenham, Grimsby, Vale) need to be brought into this thread.

Well well.

Barnet get a draw after being pegged back by a pathetic Cheltenham. Bees move on to 22 points still five from safety.

FGR's financial doping boost runs out: losing today 1-0 at Carlisle. FGR on 26 points.

Chesterfield lose 1-0 at home to Stevenage. Spireites on 27 points.

Crewe were were 3-1 up at Swindon in the second half but lose 4-3. They stay on 29 points.

Morecambe fall victim to Evans. A second half equaliser for Mansfield followed by a 94th minute winner leaves Morecambe on 30 points.

Then the mini gap to safety then sees Port Vale on 33 and Grimsby on 36. Ahead of them Cheltenham, Cambridge and Stevenage. Completing the group of teams who are neither in a relegation battle or play-off hunt.

As an aside, Crawley who were heavily featured in this thread earlier in the season win again to go 12th, five points off the play offs.

Yeovil on 28 points avoid dropping to the bottom two despite not playing. They now have a game or two in hand on the two teams below and two teams above, all four of whom lost.

A five team battle to avoid joining Barnet in non-league.

Yes. Getting to be a pretty tedious thread this, we can all read and understand the league table RCS.

Just in case people weren't aware, FGR played away at Exeter this evening, succumbing to a regulation 2-0 defeat.

Good news for the likes of Grimsby and Cheltenham who maintain their nine points gap over FGR.

Still pretty tight between a bunch of teams at the bottom. Given recent form us and Grimsby could potentially be pulled in if we continue in similar form for the next few games.

Just to update in case anyone missed there were L2 games today. Barnet still rooted. Took the lead in the second half before succumbing 3-1 at home to Carlisle.

Crewe took the lead on 88 minutes but still contrived to lose 2-1 at home to Exeter.

Big sigh of relief from Chesterfield, Morecambe and Grimsby fans.

Its good for us also. By no means do I think we will be relegated but its always better when the bottom teams keep losing, keeps us looking ahead instead of behind.

Well well well and well!!

Crewe 3 - 1 FGR

Morecambe 0 - 0 Colchester

Vale 0 - 1 Exeter

Morecambe 40 points / played 37
Crewe Alex 40 points / played 38
Port Vale 38 points / played 38
Forest Green 37 points / played 38
Grimsby Town 37 points / played 38
Chesterfield 31 points / played 36
Barnet 30 points / played 38

Can MJA turn it around for Barnet?
Have FGR’s big money signings finally become ‘Coopered’ - abandoning their natural winning ways and adopting Cooper’s hapless failing tactics?
Have Dennis and Pope got four or five more winning goals in them to drag their teammates to safety?
Will Grimsby’s Cantab be able to find another win from anywhere?

Let's hope Chesterfield pick up 6 points from their games in hand.

If FGR go down it will make my year!

Enjoyed reading through that. Makes a nice change to read another set of fans slagging their manager off and despairing rather than our own.

"I took a player off because I didn't want to get even more stick". What a guy. Not because his son was playing worse, but because he didn't want flack.

Definitely. It's always everyone's fault but MC's.

We get on a good run and then he starts to tinker so he can play his son. Then it all falls apart.

Charlie Cooper an unused sub so FGR win.

Crewe win away.

Morecambe draw.

Vale an impressive draw at Wycombe.

All four sides picking up points and looking all but safe.

Grimsby turned over 4-0, so it is over to Barnet (at Luton tonight) and Chesterfield (vs Notts Co) tomorrow to close in on Grimsby.

Chesterfield 2-0 Notts Co at half time. Big 45 mins coming up. If they see it through the Grimsby are really rocking.

Wow at this point Grimsby are in serious danger I'd say if not favourites for the drop with Barnet.

Chesterfield won 3-1. Grimsby edge nearer the drop. Damn why did FGR have to win against Mansfield
