Yet another p!##-poor home performance. FGR looked like they came to win and lapped up all the space we so generously gave them. All. Over. The. Feckin'. Pitch.
Flinders - 6: one cracking save; no chance with the goal; nothing else to do.
Ilias - 8: easiest MotM decision, ever.
Grimes - 4: poor distribution one of the culprits who let the opposition run at the goal.
Rodon - 5: not a lot better than Grimes.
Moore - 3: not a RB. Pretty poor in all departments, really.
Pell - 3: what *were* Blackpool thinking...? Pushed up front at the start of the second half and was possibly worse there than when he was at LM.
Atangana - 6: at least tried to add some impetus to the midfield.
Winchester - 4: poorest game I've seen from him. Some dreadful decision-making.
Morrell - 6: some decent free-kicks and look the most likely to achieve something.
Sellars - 5: achieved nothing.
Eisa - 1: 20 goals? I know he was isolated for the first half, but he was *awful* and tried to con the ref at every touch and turn. A total embarrassment that summed up our performance, and rightly booked for it. Got one sight of goal and screwed that wide.
Wright - 5: came on and we suddenly looked like we had an attacking threat.
Graham - 4: didn't add to things.
Andrews - 4: were we trying to run down the clock by bringing him on?

JP reported on Twitter that Mo forced a good save? But probably not enough to get more than a 1.
Wright: shock horror we bring on a strong determined second striker against a poor defence and we look more of a threat.
Johnson - 0: one up front and Pell LM. 4,000 paid to come today and you serve up more of this sh!t.

I have to say, whilst I have been patient and supportive of Gary this season, when a manager fails at home so often and persists with the same failing approach you have to question whether it is time to change. Home games are the most important thing to mood of the fans, and such dull negativity at home all season will only create a dull and negative mood amongst fans who will rightly stay away.Nesty wrote:Moore not a RB - we havent had a RB all season, what a joke. square pegs in round holes, biggest example is the clown in charge. Maybe we need a manager who appreciates the need to attack properly and win home games.
In fairness to Gary, he stuck with the same system that saw us win 3-0 against a Morecambe side in a similar position to FGR - why would he change it? And FGR were extremely adept at not allowing us to get any sort of rhythm, breaking up the play and timewasting as much as they could.

Flinders - 6 - not a huge amount to do in all honesty, and no chance for the goal
Moore - 5 - pretty bland, but no worse than any other defender. Occasionally offered attacking threat. Poor final ball.
Grimes - 5 - meh.
Rodon - 5 - see Grimes
Ilias - 8 - great both in defence and going forward, showed desire right to the end.
Pell - 4 - ineffectual
Atangana - 4 - poor passing, at least showed desire
Winchester - 3 - surprisingly a rare disappointing performance
Morrell - 3 - free kick delivery was atrocious sadly. Didn't offer much else
Sellars - 5 - probably the best midfielder, occasionally looked dangerous on the ball, but the same issues of no end product
Eisa - 3 - first half very isolated so not really his fault. Second half showed no desire and was ineffectual. Really disappointing from a player who has had a great season.
Subs:
Wright - 5 - didn't do much, but at least showed passion.
Graham - 5 - ditto Wright. One of the two should have

Quite right Ben. Back four did OK limiting FG to one chance which was well taken. Midfield and up front did not turn up and when they tried in the first half were kicked up in the air or man handled. Taylor Moore did ok as did Grimes and Rodon. Illie was outstanding. All the rest were just not "at it!"
We looked spineless and lacking passion and bereft of ideas, Anyone playing for a contract ? I don’t think so . Not by that showing , was all very pedestrian. I can’t remember winning a 50/50 ball today. FGR turned up wanting it more ... fair play to them .
The manager cannot inspire a team vs local rivals , when safe and able to take a few risks . This is worrying for next season. I don’t mind losing as long as we give it a right good go... but today I felt there was lack of effort and passion apart from last 15 mins .
I’m too losing patience with GJ.
There is something wrong . Worried about next season based on our showing for last 2 seasons ? If not , you should be . All this talk of building for challenging play offs next season ... it’s BS. We will struggle, again.

Even Cooper lined up with two strikers and a proper midfield. Probably most managers in the Conference would have done given the circumstances.Ben2 wrote:Oh dear oh dearRegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:I have to say, whilst I have been patient and supportive of Gary this season, when a manager fails at home so often and persists with the same failing approach you have to question whether it is time to change. That’s really embarrassing, knee-jerk is ok but that’s just an embarrassment
It’s not knee-jerk; it is after 22 home games where have won 8 and lost 8, only scoring 30 goals.
I stated before that 10 games is the minimum number of home wins I consider acceptable.
Last season we had 8 home wins and 7 home draws. Currently we have 8 wins and 6 draws. So a loss to Coventry and we are even worse than last season. To be better than last season we have to beat Coventry.
If you consider a decision made based on a whole season to be knee-jerk then so be it.

Total knee jerk! We have been poor at home but have had some great performance away. Your reaction is acceptable if we hadn't gone to Swindon and hammered them and scored 5 away at etc etc etc
Try a bit of balance in your argument. A season is not just about home games, or against teams which begin with "C" or are north of Watford Gap or who beat us when there is an "R" in the month. As I pointed out last Sat we have improved on last season and however or whoever wants to deny that will discover that 51 points is more than 50. Period

The bread and butter of lower league football is home games. Good home games is what brings money through the turnstiles. Good home games creates a positive mood among the town and fans.
Our home form is worse last season and will only be better if we beat Coventry. So yes, I might go to more away games, but I won’t renew my ST. If the board are happy to lose money from home games but get more points away then fine.
22 home games....how many home games before you don’t class it knee jerk?

And one of the few who does has decided to leave.Nesty wrote:knee jerk my arse, I have been saying since the summer we had only one specialist full back, we have had so many square pegs in round holes its a wonder players know where they are supposed to play week in week out.
Moore had our best effort at goal in the first half. Automatically puts him in top 5 petformers. Couple of c!#p injury time balls into box makes him closer to everyone else that had been putting c!#p balls into yhyhe box all game.
Do we sell season tickets for away games ? Nothing quite like impressing in front of 200Oldun wrote:Total knee jerk! We have been poor at home but have had some great performance away. Your reaction is acceptable if we hadn't gone to Swindon and hammered them and scored 5 away at etc etc etc

To be fair though, you could see from the off it was a powderpuff team that weren't up for it and it was 65 obvious mins before any changes were made. I'm generally a GJ supporter but that was infuriating and nonsensical today.
Typical knee jerk by WB, is he not happy with winning a few away ? No loyalty at all Can he not see how much we have improved ???? We have a point more already and loads of winnable games leftRegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:And one of the few who does has decided to leave.Nesty wrote:knee jerk my arse, I have been saying since the summer we had only one specialist full back, we have had so many square pegs in round holes its a wonder players know where they are supposed to play week in week out.

Totally the point. Poor home form equals fewer fans equals smaller budget equals worse players and so on.Ihearye wrote:Do we sell season tickets for away games ? I would switch all our 4-1 and 5-1 away games for 1-0 or 2-0 home wins any day of the week.
Your telling me that there isn't a manager out there who could do better than Gary? You obviosly have very low expectations!Ben2 wrote:Oh dear oh dearRegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:I have to say, whilst I have been patient and supportive of Gary this season, when a manager fails at home so often and persists with the same failing approach you have to question whether it is time to change. INEPT: The most inept referee seen at Whaddon Road this disappointing season. The yellow flag lino not much better; how do they miss such obvious strangleholds, pushes and ankle taps. Letter to whoever oversees these clowns long overdue. Inept squad for the game too; going with the more or less the same starting line-up which was ineffective last week [first half!] – against a team of stocky thugs was a joke! I understand that considerable thought is given to watching and analysing the opposition; obviously missed this one! Inept and insipid performance from a team who ran around like headless chickens. Far too lightweight against FGR knowing what was at stake.
With apologies for repeating the above as it’s in the prediction[s] posts. But apart from Ilias who stood out for effort, skill, industrious, positioning and passing it was a shoddy performance. At least he tried; the rest were merely trying!! Poorly executed team and tactics from the manager and the majority of the team. Pell had yet another off day as did too many others; worst game from Winchester this season, perhaps another weeks rest would have been better. Crossing dire, passing dire, free kicks dire. Only one decent save required by FGR, why Winchester was shooting from the ’half-way’ line […. a slight exaggeration] I’ll never know. So a lightweight ineffective forward line; with equally ineffective subs, made no difference. In fact if one was looking to see if they were worth keeping on, the answer is a blindingly obvious NO. There were many unknown faces around us stalwart ST’s; their comments post game indicated that they were unlikely to return, let alone acquire an ST. Home games have been a serious disappointment; will it improve next season, I doubt it.

First game since the home draw with Hartlepool last season. Went with my 2 adult sons and 2 of their mates, so we paid well over £100 between us. Very unimpressed by what we got for our money. Can’t see us rushing back. Sorry to the die-hard fans but I’d rather watch free local league games than fork out £20 plus for what was on offer today.

I don’t know who it is. Johnson got us up, kept us up and improved the squad this term. Genuinely - name who you’d like to take over?

Is there a ‘kiss my teeth’ emoji? Or even better a ‘You stupid boy’ emoji? Or ‘Rodney - you plonker’?
You could take a gamble on someone like Garrard who's completely unproven and it could be a masterstroke, but equally it could see us back in the NL this time next year. Personally, I'm happy with GJ. He got us up, kept us up and has improved the team this season which is progress like it or not. We have some very good players and it's already been made clear that those not up to it will be shipped out. Steady progress is more appealing to me than taking a big gamble, but I suppose those with less patience want to see immediate success.

Never said I demand immediate success or that the team hasn’t improved.
Just that in the most important area - home form - we are on course for a worse season. More pertinently, we have had time to fix this. We didn’t think it could get much worse than the Barnet and Yeovil games in January...yet here we are in mid-April and still turning out the same insipid, unadventurous and boring stuff for the loyal paying fans, despite being safe for months with no reason not to try and win a few home games in style.
That inability to change and deliver the fundamental part of mid-table football - home entertainment to justify ticket costs - can be damaging. Yes in the immediate term we may have a better side and more points, but poor home form leading to lower gates and less money will soon end up in a worse team.

I'm not calling for Johnson to go - but I've seen a lot of Peterborough fans on Twitter saying they wouldn't mind Grant McCann back. We could certainly do a lot worse if Johnson did go.
As for today's team - Keeper and defence fine, Illias outstanding, midfield abysmal and Mo showing again that he doesn't seem to enjoy playing at Whaddon Road.

Sorry asl, agree with most of your ratings but like others I thought Morrell had a shocking game and couldn't work out how he lasted the full match without being subbed.asl wrote:First two. Right in the danger zone. After that...Malabus wrote:Trying to think of a decent free-kick today too.
Early free kicks were either under-hit (not the first time this has happened) or sailed over everybody and out for a goal-kick. Corners were just floated invitingly into their keeper's hands and quite what was happening in the second half when in a promising position he just passed the ball out for another goal-kick I'll never know.
Sadly though he wasn't the only one. Flinders had little to do and the back four were ok with Illias easily the best player in the side today. Big Nige was ok but the rest of the starting eleven were abysmal. Graham and Wright at least added some effort but one of them should have started the game instead of their arriving as late substitutions.
The time wasting all afternoon was very tiresome, wish the ref had got to grips with it because other than that he wasn't too bad. Not great but not bad either.
