Cotterill bookies favourite

For him to have come in so hard suggests people are putting on a reasonable amount of money though Si. No smoke without fire as the saying goes but I just cannot imagine the board would be so stupid to appoint Slade it would be hugely unpopular with fans and a clear backwards step from GJ.Si Robin wrote:In fairness, the bookies don't have a clue. A couple of quid would change the market. Someone got Carlsey at 33/1 on Weds morning, by lunchtime he was odds on and has been since - despite reports that he's not available.
My question would be: Why is anyone out there betting on who will be our next manager? Utter folly. Nothing links Slade to us so if his odds are coming in then it must just be due to foolish people thinking he used to manage a lower league team in the south west and therefore he's likely to get the job.

Yeah I agree Si. Slade is now clear favourite but surely it can't be a big market so it probably only takes me to bet £100 on Buckle and he will probably become favourite!!! whilst an interesting experiment sadly i won't be doing this!!)
If it was Slade I don't think it is hugely inspiring but he has a decent enough record and before Charlton & Grimsby was at Cardiff in the Championship only 2 and a bit years ago so to get yourself in the frame for that job he obviously knows his way around the lower leagues. A bit like GJ before he took over here.
Personally, I would still rather someone more up and coming who will invest in youth a bit more and would be pro Gill or Carsley.

Please God none of the bottom 5,and if it's Slade that will just prove to me that our Chairman knows stuff all about football.Robin wrote:Latest odds are very worrying:

A few weeks ago, the question was “stick or twist”. We’ve gone beyond twist now, so fingers are well and truly crossed. Who in their right mind is having a flutter on Slade?

When Russell Slade was at Grimsby recently it made Cooper and Johnson look like Pep and Klopp. Would be a disaster.

He was also bookies favourite for Carlisle job at one stage which we know never materialised, so no reason to think the bookies odds reflect reality.

Interesting. Michael Duff is now 10/1 on Sky Bet.

SkyBet seem to have removed odds on our next manager from their website.

I guess in that situation, for those who wanted GJ gone, the saying "the grass isn't always greener on the other side" would be very apt.Robin wrote:The scary thing is I would be very upset if we appoint three of the top five on BetVictor, only Carsley or Bowyer there for me.

I personally would love to see his analytical skills being used at Cheltenham Town FC.
The chance to be the man to take CTFC up a division or two - could we tempt with a carrot like that?

depends if he knows which side his bread is buttered.Robin wrote:I'd take Warbuton here, did excellent at Brentford.
Personally feel Milton should get it as already seen an upturn in the result yesterday (with improved performance) and he is the only one who has a full knowledge of who we have been scouting, meaning he can oversee the final week of the loan window.
A new manager firstly, is cutting it very fine to come in and then start bringing new players in and also any players brought in may not be scouted sufficiently. From memory, when Buckle was sacked we brought in a host of rushed signings, the majority not improving the side much (Burns & Packwood excluded) and I fear an external appointment may yield the same result.
Milton knows all the players, staff and club and deserves another chance after probably learning a lot over the previous few years. I think we should bring in an experienced new assistant manager alongside Milton as manager.
