Great news. A bit concerning how Colchester had four players/staff with the virus out of twenty odd tests however. That will put them at a major disadvantage for the play offs you'd think.
Also glad to see the final will be at Wembley so it will give the players who make it something special at least.

Well firstly let's wish the affected personnel a full and speedy recovery.
I suppose as the first matches won't be for 3 weeks it's better to have positive results now and before contact with other team members begins.
If I'm correct in thinking that only approximately one person in 400 has the virus then for Colchester to have 4 out of thirty odd is astonishingly high.
I'm no expert though.

Essex has 219.6 confirmed infections per 100k of population.paperboy wrote:Well firstly let's wish the affected personnel a full and speedy recovery.

Gloucestershire has 216.7 per 100k.

Obviously that is county level and only counts actual tests which will vary across the country (plus the government doesn’t know who has been tested).
So it depends where the players live I guess. Parts of East London (Havering, Waltham Forest etc) have rates up around 275 per 100k or higher.
And it will also depend on whether the players live and socialise together. It might be that all four Colchester players travelled in the same car or taxi, or went to the same takeaway, massage parlour/brothel, bookies or whatever it is League Two footballers do.
I reckon we are looking at the first leg of the play off the weekend of 13th/14th June and the 2nd leg 16th/17th June with the final at Wembley the last weekend of June. If I am correct then the chances of these players being fit for the two leg games must be pretty low right now.
Which in turn makes the whole EFL decision to insist on playoffs a farce. How can this possibly be a level playing field?Robin wrote:I reckon we are looking at the first leg of the play off the weekend of 13th/14th June and the 2nd leg 16th/17th June with the final at Wembley the last weekend of June. Given that social distancing and observation of lockdown rules, seem to be widely ignored in the Cheltenham area. We are not out of the woods ourselves, yet.
Spot on. The play-offs are an utter farce.Ihearye wrote:Which in turn makes the whole EFL decision to insist on playoffs a farce. Futile to even attempt them, incurring costs that the industry can ill-afford.
At worst they won't actually take place or be completed, and at best, an unlevel playing field
Firstly, 30 isn't a particularly big sample size to compare with any county wide or national prevalence rate.paperboy wrote:Well firstly let's wish the affected personnel a full and speedy recovery.

Secondly, its quite possible that some of those affected have had some form of non-virtual contact with each other, even with social distancing measures.
The prem league returning will largely fund no one but themselves and Johnson's political capital.Robin wrote:During the government press release yesterday they mentioned that prem football returning will be used to fund the lower leagues. Presumably that means funding of testing for play offs and potentially help with wage bills for the clubs involved too?

That’s the way it goes. Remember when Spurs missed out on top four when half the team got food poising before the last game of the season?Ihearye wrote:Which in turn makes the whole EFL decision to insist on playoffs a farce. Not quite the same. Food poisoning isn't contagious like a virus, is not a communicable disease and there were no HMG guidance / rules / regulations enforcing those impacted by it to isolate.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:That’s the way it goes. Total nonsense. No other games are being played, because it has been deemed unsafe. Also notice of who is paying for all this.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote:That’s the way it goes. Games are being played in Championship and Premier League where it is more affordable. The only reason L1 and L2 are not playing is financial - clubs cannot play ten games with no fans. Two or three games for four teams is both more affordable for the teams or for a third party to cover the cost.
