As our status in league one looks all but guaranteed I cast my eye to the lower leagues to see who may come up. Swindon, Newport, Exeter, FGR and Bristol rovers in the mix, all of whom would be good local games (to more or less extent).
FGR are still 8 points clear despite not winning in six. If any club could conspire to not go up from this position it is the circus on the hill, their annual New-Year-collapse taking hold. Unless they don't win between now and the end of the season they'll probably come up...but there's always that hope isn't there

Unfortunately they have a competent manager these days rather than the hapless Cooper so I think they will see it through.
Cooper of course on the cusp of getting Barrow relegated, after making them much worse than they were last season.

Seven without a win, actually. And during that time the teams below them have conspired to be absolutely c!#p and not close the gap at all. Look at the form in that division - Carlisle are the only team with a run of wins and they're something like 17th. Absolutely terrible league this season.

We’d have been confirmed champions already.Shade wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 00:46 Seven without a win, actually. Make that 8 without a win as they draw at home to 20th placed Orient and everyone behind them actually won tonight.
They will still surely do it but it would be one of the all time greatest bottle jobs if they manage to screw it up from where they were.

Agree they just SURELY do it...but they are such fun, aren't they? How long before the crowd fall out with the manager and chairman again?

Assuming they do make it up then this collapse shows they will struggle next season in L1.
Could be the first relegation spot already booked.
Meanwhile Dale Vince is making excuses to keep the money flowing to Russia.

If FGR do come up the cheque book will be well and truly out and they'll have no issue in getting the players they need with their dirty Russian money.

Good to see Barrow saw sense much more quickly than FGR did.bigdavejambo wrote: ↑20 Mar 2022, 15:40he has just been sackedRegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 11:46 Unfortunately they have a competent manager these days rather than the hapless Cooper so I think they will see it through.

Mark Cooper has been sacked from Barrow? Well I never. I bet the interviewers up at Holker Street are over the moon at no longer having to put up with, presumably, overly-defensive and hostile meetings with him before and after every match.

Cooper replaced by Phil Brown
So Phil Brown has gone from being former manager of Southend to Barrow. How far apart can you get?
I'll miss Cooper, always enjoyed his interviews .....
I see they finally won last night. Big shame. How c!#p Colchester have become over the last few years.
On another note, we are currently (55) only 6 goals away from the total we scored in winning League 2 last season (61). With 2020/21 being such a strange season in so many ways, I don't think we can compare any stats between our title winning season and FGR this year...because they're probably going to beat them all apart from, hopefully, goals conceded (ours 39, theirs currently 32 with 9 games left). Although beating their points total would be hilarious given they're only 10 points off it.

Unsure how this impacts on FGR currently.
Ecotricity and FGR are separate entities, both owned by the same group which is 100% owned by DV. So the ownership of FGR will be unchanged.
I suppose in theory DV could use the capital from selling Ecotricity to build ecopark and the new stadium without any debt which would put the club in a strong position.

They've done it again. Absolutely unbelievable - managing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
How does a club manage to collapse EVERY SINGLE SEASON? Nothing to do with the manager or players, it's just an awful, woeful football club
