Little old Cheltenham

The chairman doesn`t like the l.o.c. ref; but is an oft used description of our club and totally understood by many of us,i wonder if it`s a reflection of the way our board seem historically and currently very insular and seemingly resistant to any outside investment/ideas. I can think of a few who have been rebuffed in the past, starting with George Dowty and more recently Dale Vince,Andy Wilcox and Richard Lewis,no reason for any of these was made public understandably, but how many others have been made to think we are a closed shop and don`t welcome outsiders into our private and secure domain ?
The board seem to resist any movement to a more progressive modern approach to running a league football club in 2022, rebuffing any involvement from outside parties is part of this. Why? Can only think that the financial side of the cub could go wrong very very quickly and we haven't got the fanbase (money) that can take the hit on something going awry. People and organisations have and may have approached the club but you have no idea what they want in return, whether that be involvement in the playing side, getting 'their' people involved in every aspect pf the club which could become a problem.
So as frustrating as it can be I think its better to be risk averse for a club of our size.

I prefer to be risk averse myself - we've seen it time and again how clubs have been torn apart by snake oil salesmen and the like.
I want to see the club be successful, I want to see us play as high as possible, most importantly though, I want there to be a Cheltenham Town to go and watch regardless of what level we're at.

100% agree. We also don't own the ground which probably keeps some sharks at bay.Si Robin wrote: ↑08 Nov 2022, 09:57 I prefer to be risk averse myself - we've seen it time and again how clubs have been torn apart by snake oil salesmen and the like.

When was George Dowty rebuffed (allegedly)?
Back in the mid/late 1960’s I believe.
Probably just a rumour anyway back then.
Another who allegedly was interested in buying the club 10/15 years was the ex Southampton owner who lived in the Cotswolds?

Not sure decisions made in the 1960s can be used to criticise the current board and previous chair.
Where does it say that?RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote: ↑08 Nov 2022, 23:08Not sure decisions made in the 1960s can be used to criticise the current board and previous chair.

To me the original post read like it was criticising the board, and referenced a rebuffed offer fromlittle mo wrote: ↑09 Nov 2022, 09:10Where does it say that?RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote: ↑08 Nov 2022, 23:08Not sure decisions made in the 1960s can be used to criticise the current board and previous chair.
Dowty. Now we learn that offer was in the 1960s - so not relevant to our current Board. Apologies if I misinterpreted the OP.
