A strike-force is an absolute must.
Replacing the May and Goodwin is paramount, which certainly hasn't happened this season.
Goodbye L1 and we welcome the joys of Barrow.
NO MORE PENNY PINCHING IN L2 NEXT SEASON

Yes it is paramount - but we've just posted a £530k loss and if we get relegated some players will leave along with a reduced budget.
Wrt the "penny pinching" did you just think that D Bloxham was going to pull £750k out of his back pocket so we could sign Doidge and Aaron Pressley during the window? Even if we could afford them they still have to want to play for Cheltenham - and we also have a small budget for L1 and we have to cut our coat according to our cloth.
In L1 our budget means that we have to be a selling club (May/Goodwin) and we have to take punts on players - some of which will work out (Sercs/May/Goodwin) and some that will not (not seen much of Nuttall/Olayinka tbh).

I'm assuming that our EFL Trophy prize money paid for Keena, so losing £530K with no big outlays on other transfer fees is extremely worrying. I'd like to know where that money went - Seasons?
May & Goodwin sales should balance the books, but what about the current season? Probably high wages for Southwood, Davies, Sercombe, Street, Taylor (?), Thompson and DC too. Add in to that we'll still be paying Wade. Also, no cup runs. Unless there were some exceptional circumstances last year, I'd imagine this financial year will be even worse.

FA cup, turning up to Wimbledon and pathetically collapsed
BSM trophy, no f#!$ given
Going down the cheap route hiring Wade Elliot as a replacement for Michael Duff. Big pay off.
Recruitment, down the cheap route.
I could go on for days.

We've lost £500k. By definition we are not penny-pinching.
You can argue that money was badly spent. But you cannot argue that we are hoarding it.

Harsh, considering he took us to our second ever highest finish in the EFL with more wins than under Duff. He might have been unable to stop the rot at the start of this season, but it's impossible to say that, overall, he didn't do a good job, last season.
Besides, I don't recall many objections to his appointment, at the time.

I don't disagree. But that's poor decision-making, in hindsight. It's not penny-pinching.Malabus wrote: ↑06 Mar 2024, 13:35Lost 500k for the reasons above.Jerry St Clair wrote: ↑06 Mar 2024, 13:31 We've lost £500k. By definition we are not penny-pinching.

Not in the latest set of published accounts, it didn't. Ergo, that has nothing whatsoever to do with the £500k loss.
Well it certainly contributed to the lost.
A big chuck of the loss was the purchase of Seasons, so was expected.

was any compensation paid by Shrewsbury for Moore and Bignot?
I don't think so. They were both on one month notice contracts.bigdavejambo wrote: ↑06 Mar 2024, 20:01 was any compensation paid by Shrewsbury for Moore and Bignot?

Yes, but we have a £530K loss carried forward unless there were reserves to offset this. Assuming another loss this season then we'll have another large deficit to fund before we can start splashing out any cash next season.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote: ↑06 Mar 2024, 18:09May & Goodwin sales are in this financial year.tunnelvision wrote: ↑06 Mar 2024, 12:11I'm assuming that our EFL Trophy prize money paid for Keena, so losing £530K with no big outlays on other transfer fees is extremely worrying. Ah yes. I assumed it just ate into cash reserves rather than going into the overdraft so to speak, but who knows.tunnelvision wrote: ↑06 Mar 2024, 22:19Yes, but we have a £530K loss carried forward unless there were reserves to offset this. Well it's too soon to be so pessimistic although others will say just being realistic.
I'd forgotten about the hefty solidarity payments that clubs get which help in the first season after relegation.
So if the worst does happen the next season offers the best chance of promotion.
Similar to when we went down to the NL I guess.

No but Moore got a hefty pay rise to stay when Forest Green were trying to poach him so we had six months of paying him beyond budget before he weaseled off.bigdavejambo wrote: ↑06 Mar 2024, 20:01 was any compensation paid by Shrewsbury for Moore and Bignot?
