The Echo may have searched in vain for a photo of the great Dave Read. Now there was a player of severely limited ability. I'm sure the Echo could find the letter his wife wrote to the paper asking the fans to stop shouting at him. Quality stuff.

Alas, Our digital archive only goes far back as 1997. So precious few photos from that time have been uploaded.

I do remember Dave Read - shocking player. Milk turned quicker than him.

Dave Read ! I forgot all about him, wasn't he one of Chris Robinson's signings ?

I recall when we beat Telford Xmas '98 at Bucks Head on the way to the Conference title he was playing for them. We won 3-0. Should have been 10-0.

We have had some pretty bad Daves down the years.

Dave Butler from the early 1990s lacked almost everything required to be a footballer and David Fry (the goalkeeper) wasn't much better.

Who decided that the 8th February is 'Dave Day'....complete and utter non-sense

It's to promote research in to pancreatic cancer.

Roger Lloyd-Pack who played Trigger in Only Fools and Horses died from pancreatic cancer and February 8 was his birthday.

Butler & Stobart - the gruesome twosome ....

David Fry's appearance was one of my very rare non-appearances at Whaddon Rd - what was the score ?

So who was the best Dave ? Norts was fantastic but the Flying Pig or me.

Or a Jerry Day (if that co-incides with a match day, we should refer to all the players as Jerry so we have a team of Jerry Gills)

I had managed to erase Dave Read from my memory (centre-back / left-back wasn't he?). Can anyone think of any worse player?
