The original loan extension was agreed, but not signed before he got injured.
Therefore he needs to re-sign on loan. The game he is playing for Reading in is just a friendly.
If he is on a youth loan, which is possible, the terms of the loan allow him to play for parent club anyway.

Sorry, should have made that clearer (it's been a busy week dealing with horses and fighting/p*****g footballers!)
Youth loans mean they can continue playing development games and friendlies for parent club - not first-team competitive games. Reading's today was a friendly.
