Everyone likes Lloydy because he is a nightmare for defenders with his handling but goal-wise he's a bit like an aeroplane that doesn't fly.Shade wrote:Smith and Lloyd upfront. Personally, I'm glad that MD is trying a different combination up front. Everything crossed it brings goals.
Hope he makes me eat my words!

I had just removed the tea bag from my lucky CTFC mug and Lloyd scored.
I should have brewed before kick off!

As long as we win it doesn’t matter who else does.Shade wrote:The first time in, I think, months that the top 5 are all winning.
Thank f#!$ for that. Not exactly impressed with the way we went about the second half, how deep we were and the amount of possession we conceded, but the result is all that matters at this stage.
Now, can we break the run and actually get back-to-back wins on Saturday.

Agent Pell on Saturday will help us out.Shade wrote:Thank f#!$ for that. Not exactly impressed with the way we went about the second half, how deep we were and the amount of possession we conceded, but the result is all that matters at this stage.

Huge win - well ground out.
Defensively we were as solid as you would like. Stevenage changed it up at half time to narrow their wingers and look for overlaps and/or target Long in the half spaces. With the midfield sitting a bit deeper, we managed to nullify that threat.
We were not particularly good in transition, the goal aside, and especially in the second half. That is partly because we were sitting deeper, but it was also partly because of poor decision-making from the wing backs and midfield. We could also afford to be more intelligent with our long clearances. We tend to whack it up centrally which either goes straight to their keeper or their CB who can then start another attack with our defensive banks still sitting deep.
In possession, we were fine and caused a few problems against a well-drilled defence. In the first half, Stevenage were slow in possession and we looked at our most dangerous when we pressed high up the field. In the second half, they upped the tempo and looked to find Aitchison in the pockets.
I never felt that we would concede because we were so solid, and that is a real team effort. Unfortunately, in League Two especially, it only takes one error or one baffling refereeing decision to unravel good work for 90+ minutes.
Connor Thomas was my MOTM - he was excellent.

Indeed. Shows how good the defence is.drgm wrote:We are trying to win the league while only scoring only one goal a game. Will be quite an achievement if we can do it.
We still have the second best GD in the league after all.
With tonights win, Colchester are all but safe, 9 points ahead of Southend with a big GD advantage. However, we haven't won back to back games for probably 9 or so games and we know what our record is like against teams toward the bottom...

A point on Saturday and then win our game in hand on Tuesday and we are up.Shade wrote:With tonights win, Colchester are all but safe, 9 points ahead of Southend with a big GD advantage. I was thinking that but we need to win Saturday if we are to win the league. Need to get at them from the off like our lives depend on it, win and we are up and then sets us up to reclaim top spot on Tuesday.Shade wrote:With tonights win, Colchester are all but safe, 9 points ahead of Southend with a big GD advantage. The way Cambridge have turned up the last couple of games, I'm thinking we will need to win all 4 games to win the league. They should be winning their three remaining games, they're through their run of top opposition, but we've said X should beat Y a lot this season...
