Why does the BBC 'think' Great Britain has an obsession with curling?

Does it? Why do say that? Because one of the six nominees won a gold medal at the Olympics for Curling?

The BBC are basically gaslighting Great Britain into thinking curling has some football type grip on the nation and everyone is involved in it, when its at best a minority pastime.

Last time the voting figures were revealed, third place got 73,000, but it was as low as 29,000 in 2011. Either way, I think it's probably a few more than about 200 votes given that she beat the fairly popular Ronnie O'Sullivan.
