Wrexham Government Loan

Talk about other football teams at all levels. AND ANY Glos City related threads, even if talking about the groundsharing.

This can only end in tears….

A new 5,500-seater stand at The Racecourse has secured £25m backing from Wrexham council.
The development - which will take promotion-chasing Wrexham's home capacity to 15,000 - had an application for UK government Levelling Up Fund money rejected in January.
But the council's executive board has unanimously backed funding it with a £25m Welsh government grant.
Leader Mark Pritchard said the rest of the cash would come from a partnership.

Lovely bit of PR from rexham council, if they tried to do this without the A-listers on the scene it would have been a big fat GET LOST!!!

Surely though as a grant it’s creating an unfair playing field? Let’s just chuck free money at a football club! Let them play in Wales if they want to do that.

I was actually working with the Council before and around the time of the takeover, on a social housing building project. Won’t give any details, but their finance and procurement team were no more eager to spend money on better quality above standard homes (as opposed to the usual cheapest option new build rubbish) than any other council was or is. Even then they were talking about the investment the takeover would bring to the town.

I know their 5000+ stand is twice the size of our mooted new main stand and possibly much grander, but 25 million !!
6 million was a figure originally bandied about for ours but one suspects that 10 mill might be the starting point nowadays.

Depends on the design, materials and size of associated conferences and hospitality spaces I guess.
