We must be using the peanuts that we got from Charlton for Alfie!

but he didn't have a club so 1 peanut is worth more than none
I bet 1 peanut is worth having
also states he's playing for a contact
I thought DC was in defensive mode arms folded for all but a few seconds during the interview
So the Club are backing him with peanuts
but I suppose we are paying for loans and former manager which will add up to a bag of peanuts

Odd one this, I have no doubt the welcomed the chance to play for DC again. However that would seem to suggest offers from others have only come in just as we approached him and not at Any other time during his free proof. Either way not too bothered just glad to have him here and hope he does enough and earns his contract come Jan

As far as I am concerned he can play Snoopy as a roving #10 as long as it keeps us up

I suspect DC is talking up Tom Pett’s value, based on the fact he’d remained unsigned (assuming “other” interest was quite recent, as you suggest) despite being a free agent, and an obvious quality one at that.

Pett has to put in a shift (and I’m certain he’s very capable) because he is back in the shop window now. When DC talks of Pett playing to “earn another contract in January” it doesn’t necessarily mean that contract will be with Cheltenham, after all, he’s been brought in as cover for Bonds’ injury. Either way, DC is doing Tom Pett a genuine favour, and both Cheltenham and Pett can capitalise on that.

I think you can bet your life-savings on Pett signing on at Cheltenham for at least the rest of the season in January.

It's very clearly DC using the media to shine a light on the frugal nature of our board. That said, Pett needs to perform then hopefully he can be rewarded with a longer term deal as likely he'll be useful next season especially if we go down.

I think its probably more another indirect barb at how our budget was blown on players not up to it. He knew exactly the type of club and board we have before joining

Which players? The ones who played well on Saturday or Micky Moores mistakes?

I think this is it. Spot on.

Quality control went out of the window in the summer. We have, frankly, pissed a load of money down the drain in desperation. The lesson here is that if we are on limited funds we have to be very smart about the what spend our money on.

It is very interesting looking at our summer recruitment and asking whether we have actually wasted a load of money.

I think most people’s view of the summer being a failure is skewed by the lack of production from our loanees and the chaotic end of the window that saw us with seven loan players when you can only pick five on the matchday.

Bevan has obviously been the standout and is getting better game on game, Williams, Malcolm & Butler-Oyedeji have shown brief glimpses of ability but not enough yet, Peupion we haven’t really seen what he is about, D’Auria-Henry we never really got to see and Hammond just looks a bit overwhelmed. So yes the loans other than Bevan have largely failed us but has that really cost us money? I would think and hope that with them all being Development Loans that we are paying little to nothing towards their upkeep.

Of the permanent summer signings, I would say that individually they haven’t been too bad and none of them disastrous. I would imagine Luke & Curtis Davies are the top earners, Luke I would say is justifying this status, Curtis has been decent but not great so depends on what he is actually earning to decide if he’s worth it or not. Curtis Thompson and Rob Street both look to be getting better and will end up decent signings for us. Liam Smith has looked solid enough but has been struggling with his ankle so hopefully now he has had it cleaned up he can get a run in the team when fit and prove his worth.

So overall I don’t think we have wasted too much in the way of money per se but we have been left short by the quality of the loans and the shortcomings of the squad we had already.

In my view our loanees have been pointless signings with the exception of Owen Bevan. No one in here knows the ins and outs of the contracts we and their parent club have agreed on, they could be herebfor nothing, a percentage of there wage, all of it, or we pay if they dont play
For most of those loans to sit in the stands and not take part in the game on match day is ridiculous we might as well have our own kids doing that.
We could possibly have 2 or 3 players who could feature with the money were spending on these loans. DC has virtually said the squads to big. Im sure if they can return to their clubs in January DC will be stood there holding the door open
