Not a troll... Though that's what a troll would say. Allegedly our second bid has met your valuation, info coming from ITK's our end who are in regular contact with our owners.

The last thing we need right now with numbers in the squad is to sell one of our best young talents but I mentioned weeks ago this could happen. I mean we would sell to raise funds to strengthen the overall squad.

My view is that the only way Goodwin should leave is if the offer is too good to turn down and we have a striker close to joining to replace him, his improvement this year has been massive.

Can't wait for the explanation from the board as to why he was sold for some magic beans and a friendly.

It only makes sense if we have an experienced 9 in the wings and we could reinvest the rest of any feee in the other squad gaps… but then if there was one out there who would sign for us, then he’d be in the crosshairs of the other sides in the league with more money. Everyone wants a striker right now and there aren’t many out there.

If this happens then it’s putting an insane amount of pressure on Keena to come good

I am just checking down the side of the sofa and armchairs. Given how we value players, I may just be able to meet the valuation as well!! Be right back to let you know if I can cobble it together

For anyone waking up from a period of suspended animation, yes, this is the same Will Goodwin who should have been going out on loan to National League South a few months ago.

And no resale value as he's getting on a bit now being as he is nearly 22 ;)

The board have a chance to make up for last summers cock up.
Goodwin has sell on potential, another low fee would be disastrous. Charlton just spent 1 million on a kid from West ham,not saying he's worth a million but if we sell for peanuts again for a 21 year old with 18 months left on a deal then the board haven't learnt a bloody thing.
Not 250k with add ons we might get in two years. A big fee upfront with add ons,250k won't help us now in a relegation battle.

I suspect the board will keep the fee closely under wraps knowing the flak they got for selling Alfie for such a low amount.

If I was on the board I'd want a decent fee agreed shouted from the rafters, no mention of anything is not a good look for them and their look isn't too good regarding selling damn good players.

I will say this now but I highly doubt the board will hold out for £250k unless the gaffer has a strong say in it. Then they will spin it the DC was happy with the fee and could reinvest it to get new players in the building.

When have we ever got a decent fee for any of our players other than maybe Mo Eisa    :D

What difference a few months make.

At the start of the season he was odds on to be the boo boys No1 target.
3 months ago one of The Nests most illustrious posters was still saying he was bang average L2 and should go out on loan until quickly becoming one of our most important players.

Can't Alfie implore Charlton to reunite him with Aiden Keena who he told everyone was going to be a sensation this season.

The other thing to consider is that Charlton seem to be throwing cash around like it's going out of fashion at the moment with no discernible influx of investment or improvement on the pitch. I know they were taken over last summer but their debt appears to have been around £20m at that time and wages were outstripping revenue.

No point having sell on clauses if they suddenly do a Reading and either go bust or sell off their players on the cheap to pay off debts.

Whatever fee we could potentially get you can almost guarantee that Stoke City will get a decent percentage of that.
Just like Donny Rovers got from the Alfie sale.
C’est la vie…..

Most fees are undisclosed these days. Pretty sure the May one was? They just end up leaking out.

apparently what you do is agree a £3million fee get 250k up front then borrow £2.5M and the rest pays the interest
That way we can build a new stand courtesy of Charlton :D

This is a really good point. Charlton are......unstable to say the least. League rules do require football debts to be paid first (after taxes) so there is that level of reassurance. But if they do go pop, it would be risky.

Given his injury record, £400k for Gillespie was outstanding. Honestly think he'd have gone for a million if he could stay fit.

Agreed, Si. Also, the compo paid for John Ward was our record 'transfer fee' for many years - not sure I've ever seen a number attributed to that, though.

Maybe let them have Goodwin as long as we keep Darrell Clarke.
Stale must be wishing he'd taken him on.....amongst others.

I will hold my hands up and say he's improved beyond what anyone could have expected but let's be honest last season he was a totally different player.

Any new stand will cost a lot more than £3million though. :D What do people think would be a fair fee here given his age, the money Charlton are splashing around and his contractual situation perhaps around £400k upfront and a 20% sell on?

At the time there was uproar that we sold him on the cheap though. As Si says it was his injury record which prevented him going to much bigger club for much more money, one of the most naturally talented finishers we've ever had in my view.

Crikey that was nearly 16 years ago. Summer 2008. Gillespie wasn’t properly replaced and we got relegated the next season.
