Swindon sacked their manager this morning and replaced him with Ian Holloway. Shows how bad we were against them a couple of weeks ago.

But Ollie...at Swindon...great for them, or great for us???

Was it him the BBC article was about on out of work managers?

His last job was at Carlisle four years ago, and that didn’t end well…..
Update - Grimsby sorry. Left because of boardroom issues. He’ll do well at Swindon.

Marcus Bignot is at Swindle. That had passed me by.

Bignot was Wade Elliott’s first assistant in July 2022, then moved on with MM to join Shrewsbury in July 2023, but left there after six months when Matt Taylor got the boot. Joined Swindon this summer, we’ll see how long he stays there now.

Holloway would likely have been amongst the front runners here had Flynn been sacked in recent weeks.

As for Bignot he did a good job coaching our defence.

Ollie's honeymoon period following their 1st-minute lead was short-lived...

Plenty of interesting results today.

Morecambe winning at Harrogate, Carlisle at Salford, Accrington at Chesterfield, Gillingham beating Port Vale.

Holloway should have stayed with his Original Society. They’re Friendly. I wonder if they looked after him when he was out of work for all those years?

See, I like the bloke and his banter. My dad had an experience with him in Bristol Crown Court when there was crowd trouble at a local derby and said he had the whole court in stitches.

Fleetwood sacked Charlie Adam. 4 points and places below us with 2 games in hand, but 9th November's 1-0 win over Bradford was their only L2 win since 1st October's crazy 2-6 win at Walsall...3 days after they won at WR.

It's odd that football clubs aren't treated like companies for the most part - letting HMRC debt accrue, not paying suppliers etc - and are allowed to rack up debt at a ridiculous rate. Just look at Man U (funded on debt now) and Barca (over a billion Euros in debt) but are still allowed to play.

The Trust is trying to make supporters aware that the debt isn't being cleared and could add up to £20m in a few years - but I'm not really sure if it'll have any effect tbh. Clem's keeping the club going but they'll be in trouble if he goes🤔

I really don’t get how they can have different rules to a business, after all that’s what they are and most are Ltd company’s.

There again, there are many examples of businesses losing millions but are considered to have a huge value. Did Twitter ever make a profit but Elon Musk paid a huge sum for it?

Tech stocks aside and talking strictly UK now. I know HMRC have tried and lost before but why is a football creditor preferred over HMRC?

The only thing I can think of is that League football clubs have an almost guaranteed income, no matter how much they’re losing or currently in debt. They’re also of interest to their local communities/tax payers who the HMRC are supposed to kind of work for, so they’re given extra chances to sort things out?

HMRC are well known for not chasing the big money, instead they go for the easy low hanging fruit.
Listened to a program about something called the loan charge. They didnt go after the firms selling the service for years. Letting them take away millions, but then chased the victims for a few k.

FA rule 33 (I think). This requires football clubs to prioritise football creditors in order to retain FA affiliation. Without FA affiliation, clubs can’t play competitive matches therefore can’t trade and HMRC has no chance of getting owed tax.

David Conn speaks of this emotively in his book when Bradford gave Benito Carbone a long Premier League contract worth £40k a week that sent them into Administration as they plummeted down the leagues. They had to keep paying him while defaulting on payments to St John’s Ambulance (who were first responders at the Valley Parade disaster) otherwise they’d have lost FA affiliation.

Doncaster thrashed 5-2 at Chesterfield last night, which show how cracking our result against the Spirites was.

(Or, perhaps, what a maddeningly schizophrenic division L2 is this year?)

Mark Hughes appointed Carlisle manager. Certainly chucking a load of money at it but not working so far!
