Re: Safe already?
I maintain what I said at the start of the season: this 2024-5 squad was assembled with mid-table safety as the target. If anything, we're over-achieving a little.

Re: Cheltenham Town v Barrow
Did we actually switch to 4-4-2 when him and Hay came on? Just thinking, it might have caught Barrow by surprise because they may never have seen that before as nobody ever plays that way any more. Annoyed I missed it (recovering from a bad cold and ended up working, anyway...)

Who was the West Indian guy (Barbadian, maybe) we had briefly? Was he on loan? Had a long throw that used to come in horizontally like a tracer bullet.

Grant McCann and Peter Hynes at opposite ends of the spectrum. The latter had been tearing up trees for Villa u21, but was godawful in the man's game. Edit: looks like he went on to have a reasonably successful career, touring many clubs in Ireland. Nathan Tyson - did a good job but I always remembe...

Re: Peterborough United v Cheltenham Town
If he hadn't completely mistimed a free header in the second half at Stevenage that was virtually an open goal, we'd have gone 2-1 up, probably won the game and so stayed in L1 - he'd have been forever a hero. As it is, I have to say the experiment has been a failure. Probably an expensive one, too.

Re: Six Nations 2025
That thing about not selecting overseas players is, I thought, an RFU policy and not a 'rule of the game' as such. I suspect the FA couldn't impose similar because both UEFA and FIFA would have a hissy fit. To be honest, there have always been some extremely technical rules regarding rucks and mauls...

Was discussing much the same with my wife during the England game, this afternoon. Ireland had an early try disallowed for an infringement on a player trying to leave the ruck. One of a few new rules, it seems.

Re: Cheltenham Town v Chesterfield
Didn't look a harsh yellow on the TV, to me... Thomas' foot was almost chest-high and the fouled player had to be helped off down the tunnel.
Conversely, there was a second-half body-check by one of our players about 10 yards outside our area which somehow went unpunished.

Big clubs can afford to take a gamble on a kid who may or may not make the grade in 4-5 years time. We can't - so unless the kid happens to be a one in a million like Wayne Rooney at 16, we need to cash out as soon as there's an offer.

So that's the solution, then! We buy our shirts from Shein - designed to be worn once, and once only - call them 'special' and sell them off after each match.
